Iv been on to a guy on here bob he has one for 900 but for some reason wont send me his contact details dont figure
Why don't you get yours refreshed? New bearings, shells etc. That way you know it will be sound for many more miles.
Its 800 for the crank alone plus what ever else it needs plus labour its gonna work out a lot of money the local mechanic rob fisher who used to race sidecars told me my best option was to buy another motor .
I had mine rebuilt at the start of the year and got it done for about 1100 all in. 2nd hand crank. all new bearings and shells, one new piston and rod.
If the crank is OK and its just the bearings then I may have the parts - but as you say the labour to split and rebuild soon gets to similar point as replacement engine. Consider a 2010+ engine with the modified crank if you are spending that sort of money on replacement.
Im going to ring honda on tuesday and see what can be done about replacing the crank as a good will jesture.wish me luck
I agree that the final costs can be almost the same as a 2nd hand engine, the real benefit is that the engine builder can inspect every part for wear and change whatever needs doing. If you buy a 2nd hand engine, unless you know 100% the history with no doubts, it is a gamble.
