http://www.crash.net/rr/news/237897/1/guy-martin-signs-with-honda-racing.html "Lincolnshire's Guy Martin has joined the official Honda Racing team to ride the new CBR1000RR Fireblade SP2 at this year's Isle of Man TT. Martin will make his return to the international road races this season for the first time since a serious accident at the Ulster Grand Prix in 2015. The move sees the 35-year-old sever his ties with Northern Ireland's Tyco BMW team as he joins forces with 23-time TT winner John McGuinness in a powerhouse line-up for Honda. Martin will ride Superstock and Superbike machinery at the TT and is also set to return to the North West 200, Southern 100 and Ulster Grand Prix meetings in a huge U-turn for the truck mechanic and television presenter, who seemed destined to quit the sport for good after sustaining back injuries at Dundrod in August 2015. The Grimsby rider sat out the whole season last year and missed the TT to compete in an ultra endurance mountain bike event – the Tour Divide – casting doubts over whether he would ever return to the sport. However, the biggest name in motorcycle racing will make his comeback in 2017 with the might of Honda behind him as Martin attempts to finally capture an elusive victory around the iconic Mountain Course. Martin previously raced Honda machinery at the TT for the Hydrex Honda team and Wilson Craig Racing."
Nice one....it will be good to see him back I hope it goes well for him and Honda it's not the same without him.
Have we any pictures of the new blade in track guise yet? Good to see guy back. After reading his books I was very surprised
Whatever he's being paid I bet it's a drop in the ocean for Honda....and it certainly shouldn't harm sales of the new blade especially if he goes well with his fan base.
You have to admit he's good for the sport even if he does not win one. What a character it would not surprise me if he goes on to win one
Should be good for Honda on the marketing front. Guy Martin on a SP2 at the TT. Do we think Honda (Padgetts) will bring the RCV-213S as well? It'd be great to see the SP2 v 213S
But wasn't that because the Aussie rider bust himself up on the old blade in the stock race?? Bruce Anstey just remembered.
Plenty more info (pics etc) now on MCN website :- http://www.motorcyclenews.com/news/2017/january/in-this-weeks-issue-january-18-guy-martin/ http://www.motorcyclenews.com/sport...ry/gallery-guy-martin-signs-for-honda-racing/ http://www.motorcyclenews.com/sport...-martin-in-shock-tt-return-with-honda-racing/ http://www.motorcyclenews.com/sport...rtin-i-didnt-want-to-grow-old-regretting-it-/ http://www.motorcyclenews.com/sport...s-the-best-chance-of-winning-a-big-bike-race/ http://www.motorcyclenews.com/sport...-deal-an-agreement-between-lincolnshire-men-/
Thank you Ian ,,,,that's that then all aboard the new model ....the power of marketing better than any Honda advert...
I noticed guy mentioned it's a new bike with same crack cases etc. It must be a better bike. Could be the ultimate evolution blade. All what it ever needed
Will be great to see Guy back on the roads. I'm surprised, as having read his biographies I got the impression he was losing interest in racing, or more so fed up with the PR side of things. I'd imagine now riding for Honda on their new Blade, that they'll be wanting him doing plenty of media work, he wont be able to hide away from the paddock as much.
I am a bit skeptical about Guy and Honda. I believe we all know that the blade is not the most powerful out there but as a package is pretty good. He tried BMW, Suzuki, Triumph and others but with no success, but i do hope he does well this year. Perhaps Honda can give him something the others didn't? Money is the first thing as i have read on the newspaper. He got paid to do a job and fingers crossed he will deliver. It is nice to have him on the grid anyway! Can you imagine what will happen if he win the senior race?? Haha...
