You can have massive lean on a bike aslong as you have warm tyres. Ive had to cut half my fairings away on the RHS cos they kept getting shaved and actually became a pivot point at anglesey resulting in a nice little off. Just have confidence in your tyres and the bike.
Get on a trackday. I know you are yet to do one. Do it on the blade it is what they are designed for. Take your time and build up over the day. Before you know it you will be touching down in all the right places. I was dragging the footpegs and had a wake up call around gerrards. Soon sorted my position and havent looked back since
I did it recently on the road but fully accept it's better on track. Although i'm worried about binning my bike on track and get a bit flustered with people who should be in fast/inters being in the novice group cutting me up (usually when fast/inters is sold out!) it's probably much safer than the road! For me it was straightening my outer arm over the tank, relaxing my inner arm, looking round the side of the mirror, drop the inner shoulder and trying to point my chest in the direction of the corner exit. Once you do it it'll become natural. One thing i did find though - i found it harder to do on a roundabout than a tight corner on a nice clear B road. I rarely touch down on a roundabout as i can't fully concentrate on what i'm doing while looking for traffic, diesel spills etc.
with regard to mr crafar, has to be one of nicest blokes you'll meet in the paddock, spent quite a few trips sharing a garage with him,and also done a tuition day with him,his tips/advice,method in teaching is very good, and easy to understand.unfortunatly he's a little out of my price range now (£900+) for a full 1-1 day.watching him go round turn 1 at valencia, both hands off the bars is something else and just shows what can be done. as for knee down, lean off thebike, stick your knee out,job done, not sure what the big deal is though tbh,it costs money
On my phone there's no 'like'. I will be there but no bike Two (maybe 3) track days next month though Oulton, Anglesey, (snet)
My mate said he was on a European trackday and he came past and pointed at the apex with BOTH hands. Leg-end! Spence thought he was really on it until then lol.
oh yea been there haha. one of his methods is to teach you 1 handed(not you, him),his other hand basically tells you when to brake, then drags his hand on the apex, then tells you when to throttle on.i never knew wether to laugh or cry as i was barely holding onto the bike....
To be honest guys I've never had the hankering to do this as my 47yrs old bones and mind just thinks £££££££!!!!.... plus I like my bike and leathers scuff free anyhoo when I was 17yrs on my 1980 GP125 I ground the pegs which were fixed items basically a steel bar bolted underneath the bike with 4" of rubber at each end upside down Renthal Bars springs to mind, which dug into the road throwing the rear wheel a couple of feet into the air! It scared the bejesus out off me like a bucking bronco narrowly missing on come cars round a tight bend!!.. Is this the sort of thing you've been trying Carl?
Never mind 47 years and old bones etc, I turned 49 last week and I still haven't scuffed my sliders but too old, not bloody yet
I have been riding for 39 years and never bothered getting my knee down since my mishap about 35 years ago ! I had a Yamaha YZF750 painted in 'Fast Orange' colours, it looked the bollock's at the time so I decided to go to a massive roundabout to 'get my knee down', gets up to speed, hanging off, leaning, leaning, then my arse slid off the seat, my leg/foot got run over by the back wheel, me still hanging onto the bike, I gets back on but too late, hit the kerb then the Armco. Just as well I had upgraded to fully comp just that morning !! Note to self, 'Don't use Mr Sheen on the seat' !!!!!!!!! I feel much more in control of the bike just riding normally, well I would really.
we'll have your knee down at Snetterton if it stays dry? there are some good left and right corners there, so maybe we get them both down for ya? just be ready to hang off the bike as much as you dare that is me at Cadwell, and i can still see from that picture that i can still need to get my head/elbow a bit further out/down, as i seem to be sitting up still to much? I need to try and keep my body in line with the bike and not get at to much of an angle, although it did seem to suit Mick Doohan well lol? it's good getting pictures or others to tell you, so I can follow you and tell you how close you are and how your body position is I learn the most from videos/pictures (like above) of myself on track, and keep trying. I do have both my knee sliders worn now though, happy to say
Body position and braking late were the 2 things that the instructor picked out last week. I just hope that the Racetecs do the job as they are quite worn and i've had to reverse the back one. Still gonna take the PR4's loose just in case
