Wondering if anyone on here can help me folks. Managed to wangle an invite to An Evening with John McGuiness at the end of the month up here in Aberdeen, and I'm mulling over the idea of taking along my helmet and asking him to sign it. The more I think about it though, I'm assuming it's not just as simple as him signing it with a black marker and job done: I'd assuming that I'd have to get it lacquered thereafter, in order to stop it rubbing off. Might be a daft question, but I'd never really thought about it before. Can anyone assist if they've ever done something similar before, or know of anyone who has? Basically, what do I need to do in order to walk away from the event with a nice signature that's going to stay put for evermore? Things I'm thinking about: - Do I need a particular type of marker/pen? - Do I need to prep the surface of the helmet prior to getting the signature? - Do I need to lacquer or treat the helmet after getting the signature in order to make it stay put? - Will this impart any damage to the helmet, either by degrading the finish or reacting with the polymer/plastic in some way if I use the wrong sort of pen? At first thought it seems like a simple thing to do, but if there's a way to f*ck it up, believe me, I'll find it! Many thanks in advance for any advice.
If you're worried just get a piece of clear vynil and cover the sig. Permanent marker is ok, get a pic of him holding it too for provenance. I had Simon Crafar sign his Shark rep years ago but lost the pic!! Still got the lid tho.
You defo need to do something with it. Michael Dunlop signed my lid with a permanent marker but I soon found out it wasn't so permanent.
I think the clear will cause the black signature to smudge for sure. The black marker pen will fade for sure but the venture shield if it has uv protection will help.
Thanks very much guys. Looks like Ventureshield is something that's worked for a few folk. Is it easy to apply? Do I just buy a sheet of it and cut out the 'panel size' that i need?
