I think the hospital treatment and resultant operation required would over rule the 8 day technicality

You can make a quick phone call to the HSE and ask them for their thoughts on that

As alblade has said a quick call to hse and also to citizens advice would help! Do you have a union rep at work? Or are you a member of a union? they are always ready to advise and help when needed

Luckily I'm in a union, so they are going to try to help.
Got my pack through the door today with regards to the forthcoming hearing.
Interestingly they have changed the reason for suspension from gross misconduct to act of dishonesty regarding the incident.
Both letters are supposed to be copies of each other but the wording has been changed on the latest one.
The act of dishonesty is supposedly my statement that they harassed me into giving over the phone whilst on Tramadol(pain killers), the day after the operation, differs from the statement that my workmate has given.
They are more or less saying I did it on purpose to put a claim in...

Hope you get something sorted quick. From what you say they are a right bunch and deserve a royal pounding by the HSE, Union and Tribunals.

mate of mine did the same thing a few years ago, whilst on holiday at Assen. We had the turn the wheel backwards to get his fingers out.

I'll try not to chop any other parts off, though I did manage to flatten the tip of my index finger on my right hand yesterday getting my tool chest out of the back of the van.
Nice black nail, it had just grown out from the last time I clouted it, looks like I'll have to drill through the nail to let the blood out as its quite swollen..
