Album: Ex Honda Racing UK.
2001 929RRY ex Honda Racing UK. Prepped by Paul Bird for the 2001 TT (cancelled through foot and mouth disease) it came in 6th at the 2001 Macau GP under Gus Scott. John McGuiness won that race on the sister bike. This bike still carries the Macau Scrutineers' "Passed" sticker!
Tragically Gus died in the 2005 TT. His spare helmet is on the saddle in the bike's photo.
The other photo is of course John McGuinness on the bike. When I met first met John he was, to me, an unknown remote, awesome, super-hero. Yet after a few hours in his company I can honestly say he also felt like a close friend. What a lovely man. He more than deserves his very popular adulation.
The bike is on a daytime MOT for road use (Cat & Fiddle anyone?) - hence the rear view mirrors - both for safety and for spotting PC Plod, kick stand, standard Fireblade CBR929 dash (when I got the bike it had only an on/off switch and a rev counter), registration plate and Datatool 4 alarm / immobiliser (at the insurance company's insistence).
Invisible mods provided 182 BHP at the rear wheel.
Visible mods include: Marchesini 17" wheels; Galfer wave discs; Brembo brake calipers (rear underslung) and Brembo levers; SS brake lines; Ohlins forks, steering damper and rear suspension; Harris top yolk, Pirelli Diablo tyres; tank breather; fuel baffle mesh; DID race chain; Renthal race drive sprockets; Micron carbon Fibre race exhaust with double hanger; carbon fibre hugger, front mudguard, front drive sprocket cover; frame protector; bespoke rear sets with Gillies change shaft support; (and many other parts).
