think i've posted before, but inspired by Si.'s early organisation in sorting next years tour, this is the landmarks and general route i'm thinking of for 2013... Calais, France to Nice, France - Google Maps obviously need to sort out the exact routes but thinking something a little like this. Fri - Calais to Ring couple laps Sat Ring to Freiburg as per route planned on other thread (maybe couple laps in morning before we leave) Sun - Freiburg to Grenoble via switzerland Monday - Grenoble to Nice - Route napoleon baby!! Tues - Free day to go to Monaco / explore the region on the bike Wed - Nice to Grenoble - Route napoleon baby!! Thur - Grenoble to Freiburg but mainly through France Fri - Freiburg to Ring Sat - Few laps then gun it home All the best bits from the last three tours i've done... should be a good one!
Nice route ('scuse the pun!). Be careful if you're planning on riding through Place du Casino in Monaco - I got done by the rozzers for ignoring one of them trying to stop me doing it. To be fair, the fat fecker was stood behind a line of parked cars but they weren't impressed! I did part of the route from Castellane to Nice but broke off to do some of the mountain passes and drop into Sospel and onto Monaco that way. Incredibly hard work when you weigh 400kgs but would be a lot more fun when done solo rather than 2-up:
nice one. We have just booked the hotels, just need to book the train to germany from Allesandria, and the ferry from Rotterdam to hull. Got some good deals for booking early. I'll add the hotels to my post in a bit, they look ok.
Yeah moily - been 'told off' twice for being in casino square... They really dont like us dirty bikers there, this year they we still packing up from the f1, we rolled in to the square and was looking at all the logo'd ferraris and a copper came up, said that we had ignored the no bike signs (I didn't see them) and he told us to leave monaco immediately ha ha!! As for all the hairpins, jeez they are hard work, can't imagine doing that two up, assuming you wasnt two up on the blade??
Yep, 2-up with Ventura luggage on the back and 25-30°c heat! Reckon fuelled up we came to just shy of 400kgs all-in. Was good riding but progress was slow as we stopped to take in the views at various points and speeds were 20-30mph up and down the passes. We were heading onto Portofino so had a nice blast on the autostradas after that to cool down!
Hero!! I know how hard a few hours of that riding is so two up is a massive well done sir from me You must have very strong wrists lol
This is the reason I went back this year... http://1000rr.co.uk/touring/1762.htm Put this together after my first trip there in 2010
Ahh, makes me want to go back there right now! Bet it's fantastic weather there too as well. That reminds me, I've got 20 hours of on-board footage I need to edit down.
I know, it's brilliant, each time I've been back I can't believe how good it is, if you have never done a euro tour it would be my top recommendation... Bloody awesome. And the route im looking at means you miss the boring northern France bit. Put that with the train back you get more time down there which can only be a good thing! Lol
definitely agree with you Jimbo....we all have the bug now, and not as expensive as you may think. Yes, we really wanted to avoid Northern France, as it dullsville of the highest order, but for getting somewhere quick it's ok at best.
