MAG have heard news from their Italian counterparts that there's a €10 toll being brought in for the Stelvio Pass, which will be the same for both cars and bikes. There's going to be a protest rideout on 23rd September.

Bit of a shocker but not entirely unexpected I guess what with the Italian economy being on its arse, coupled with the high number of tourers hitting the pass. I know they do annual maintenance on there as I got caught out by it in June a couple of years back and that doesn't come free but €10 is bloody steep though (excuse the pun)!

The Stelvio isn't really a "biking" road anyway to be fair.... too much shail and cars going wide on the hairpins. The Gotthard is much better as is the bornio passes.

    Come on it's only £8.

You'd spend more that on petrol on the protest ride out !

I think that is a fair price - you want to ride a really expensive to maintain road for no good reason that to ride it - why not charge.

As Si wrote its not that great, others in area much better -

Always pleased folk off here actually get out there and use their bikes!

If it improves the quality of the road I think it's a good thing (not rode it but assuming it's like rest of Italy) Don't do the grossglockner, think that was about £25.... But worth every penny!!

Oh I'm not saying a toll is unreasonable, just that the Stelvio isn't worth 10 euros when there are better passes that are cheaper (at the moment).

Stelvio is good, but not "all that", I would pay £8 for it, must be a bugger to maintain. As previously said, there are better free passes :)
