Subframe and plastics are p*ss easy to do mate. If I were you I'd be all over that. I did the same to my Blackbird a couple of months ago and it's like new again. Basically new fairings, headlight/clock subframe and new exhausts and it was done. You can get the SP1 fairing for £450 on eBay and a subframe for anything upto £50.
I have already been checking out prices for bits and bobs, i think i will go over one night and get a list of exactly what it needs. believe me Colin i am giving it serious consideration, i cant decide whether to return it to its previous condition or turn it into a track only bike.
Either way mate it would make a great bike whatever route you choose to go with it. It'll also give you something to do over the winter months
Oh and if anyone else is after a absolutely amazing SP1 then this would be the 1 to go for. I went to see it and was blown away with the thing. If I had the right amount of cash I would have been away with it on the spot. Honda VTR1000 SP1 - A1 Condition | eBay
Well I ain't going to wait to the weekend to pick up the SP. Far too excited I'm going to pick it up after work tomorrow and bring it back to its new home. I'll post up some pics of it when I get back and sat down.
i,ve got the craving for 1 too at moment. only downside is i,d have to shift the tuono (which i love) to get one. might go look at a few. any thing to look out for in particular ??
Nothing really mate, they are pretty much rock solid. I asked Arthur on here about the bikes as I trust him to be honest in his judgement when it comes to bikes. Just make sure that the valve clearances have been checked at the 16k miles mark.
Hi guys Not long in from getting the bike. First impressions are that I cannot believe it is a 11 year old bike in the way it handles. A little slow at corner entry, but once into the corner its so planted, you can pretty much get away with anything. The fueling is a little rich, though thats easily sorted as it has a powercommander. My mate in the car was behind me and said it was spitting flames out of the cans. Im sure it looks cool, and it sounds amazing popping and banging on the overrun Hers's a few pics to wet the appetite I'll be getting the wheels powder coated pronto, and there a few furry bolts here and there, but overall I'm well chuffed.
went too exeter today to look at bikes in general and a sp while i was there and it had not long sold.! bridge garage have a new never registered sp2 on display in the window. its gorgeous but not for sale.
Nice bike mate, love it... Defo needs mapping by the sound of it and your dead right about powder coating the wheel, polished rims look a bit ott. But it looks very nice!
Very nice Colin, always reminds me of joey when he raced one at isle a man. Hope you enjoy her looks lovely.
Thanks for the comments guys. I'm just on my way round to the garage just now, to strip the bike down and take the exhaust down pipes off, so that I can give them a clean up. They kind of let the bike down a little. It'll also let me get to know the bike.
