Hi all, I know that there are countless threads on here about bike insurance but after reading most of them, rightly or wrongly, I felt that my experience today deserved it's own. I had hoped that my first post (after the intro's) would include pictures of my new bike and a review however after trying to insure it in readiness for it's delivery imagine my shock when my 7 day old quote had increased from £472 to £622 I rang Bike Devil to query it and after checking my details again I was told that the quote had been revised again to £802. I questioned the fact that the original quote had a 30 day validity period - their answer "...... we are a broker and our prices are changing constantly sir". He agreed with me when I commented on the validity of the quotes being meaningless. I'm sorry if my 'virgin' post depicts me as an miserable, old sod (I'm not usually) but surely this cannot be right can it?
Get yourself on compare the market mate. I just had all 3 bikes insured for just over £600 through swinton bikes.
Shop around and tell them to stuff their quote up their arse! I pay £398 on a heavily modified 2010 blade!
Thanks Colin. Did that originally and Bike Devil and MCE (one and the same I believe) were the two cheapest quotes. Just can't understand how they can justify these crazy increases? Puzzled!
As with most things these days, it's a buyers market... chances are they're just changing their arm and hoping you're a lazy fecker who's just gonna say yes. Shop around, throw some competitor's quotes at them and see what they say then.
Yeah. Will do. They were the cheapest but not now at £802. Nevertheless unless they do agree to honour their original quote looks like I'm going to have to fork out £100+ more than I anticipated paying. Don't you jst hate paying insurance on anything? I know I do.
Bikesure were best for me this year, at 28 I pay just over 200 for 2 bikes (I think it's 230) MCE were cheaper last year for me, however both companies renewal quotes always seem to be at least double what you pay the year before! So I just switch between the 2 every year as their new customer quotes seem very good they just try to catch you out on the renewal!
Thy are taking the Michael, if they tell u the price will be held for 30 days thn change it twice thy are not worth using
It's Crazy the prices they charge that's why I have no insurance on my bike or car, saves me a packet every year.
Second the try Hastings, I have a dual bike policy with them. Got to watch all insurers, Gary (my mate that had a really bad spill recently) is going through the claim process now, has had nothing but drama's including statements that they have no record of the claim after the bike had been picked up for assessment has just found out his excess has gone from £300 to £800. Apparently the increase was notified on his renewal letter, that happened to arrive on the mat while he was laying in intensive care. The brokers are a well know brand beginning with B, I tried dealing with them a couple of times on his behalf when he was hospitalised, fooking rude and useless to the point I'm contemplating cancelling my wife's policy that's with them.
The problem is they don't need to justify their prices. You need to accept a quote at the time it's given.
See the insurance story in this months Fast Bikes about a bloke who sold his bike but left his insurance running to get the full years n.c.b. Scary!
Totally agree, but they do need to understand the term "customer service" and not act like their doing you a favour by answering the phone
I gave up phoning and found eBike Insurance - Welcome to eBike Insurance when BMW/Devitt wouldn't insure me for the Blade on my policy for a 1200GS. eBike insured my nephew on a Gixxer 600 for only a couple of hundred, also they insured both of my bikes for £400 fully comp. Worth a look
