Hi all, Was wondering what lies behind the plastic cover on the left hand crankcase side of the ABS Blade. Also could someone kindly point me in the direction of a procedure to remove the pillion foot rests from an ABS Blade? Is it a ball ache of a job to do at home and what are the pitfalls? Thanks
There are different ways of removing the rear pegs. I split the rear subframe myself... I cant say for definite, but I was digging about behind there whilst installing scottoiler at the weekend and it just seems to be cosmetic. funny idea, do let me know if im wrong!
the cover is yes to cover one of the abs units i cut mine down just to cover the unit before removein the abs all together
many reasons ever thing i got for it it was a pain in the ass to fit and just got bored with it and started to dislike the beer belly on it love working on bikes so just a excuse to strip it down again be working on engine this winter checking the valves and may be a power up kit mmmmmmmm saying that i had no problem with the abs i thought it was good not Haven a abs bike before or ridden one to compear with
Thanks John, cover looks neat, much better than OE. I might consider doing the same to mine. You can post a picture into the thread by clicking the icon showing a picture to the right of the envelope icon then copy and past the URL from the picture or by going to the Go Advanced section and clicking on the paper clip and follow the instructions. Some people upload stuff to online albums like Photobucket etc then back into the forum. Hope that helps but sure others will be able to give you better instructions
I like the look of that myself, good to actually see the engine cover. So johncbr if you stripped off the ABS stuff what was behind that cover. If I remove my cover will I see the same as in your photo? If I'm seeing this right in the photo the cut around looks neat and the plastic edges look as if they've been folded back, am i right on this? Out of interest where did you get the carbon sprocket cover from? Cheers mate
the plastic thats left covers the front valve unit for the abs the rear one is the one under the seat dont look nice with out the cover !! the rubber i put round edge some spear screen trim i have the sprocket cover is a akrapovic not shore they do them now think they give up on doin carbon
Thanks all for the info. I think the plastic will stay on to keep my 10kg of ABS hidden. Though I'm still comtemplating removing the pillion pegs, but it sounds like a bitch of a job. I remember the trouble the guy had at Motrac fitting my PCV just to route the wiring from the rear, it wasn't easy. I noticed the guides don't consider the ABS model, do you reckon it will be any different for this?
Yeah it's an annoying job, but not difficult. Don't think ABS model would make this job any different. The trick is to do a few things in one go - eg, remove pegs, fit tail tidy, fit power commander, fit air filter, etc as they all need similar access. If the guy at Motrac had trouble fitting a PC, maybe he's in the wrong job The only vaguely tricky part there is accessing the plugs to connect it.
I've had all the above mentioned fitted aside from an air filter. If I use the method mentioned above why would fitting an air filter be a job to do? I trust Motrac and the work they do both on road and race bikes is excellent. They have been in the business for a very long time and certainly know their stuff, that is unquestionable. When I say he had difficulty I was referring to the routing of the loom from the PCV in the back, past the ABS equipment, there wasn't a clear route through without some further removal of plastic that wouldn't be otherwise necessary on a non-ABS bike. Which kinda prompted me to ask if this job would be any different on an ABS bike.
By no means am I an expert on the abs model but I do know what you are talking about. It is very very snug under the seat with very tiny gaps to get cabling/piping through. I added a scottoiler and it did need flex fingers and short nosed pliers.
