I used to get caught on the bit of road from ballycastle to balintoy , real good jump as in three or more feet off the ground and that caught me a few good clangers, now the spoil sport council has flattened the jump
I'm sorry but there is some bollox spouted on here at times...no wonder you lot on newer bikes are slow as fuck!
thats generalised everyone that has bought a bike in the last four years. what point do you not agree with?
Similar to me JM1 but i have found that as you get older you can sit 4" from the tank and your balls still touch .Ha!!
read Simon Crafar's book , he said to do the exact same thing, balls to the tank lol. also like how California superbike school showed the pushing on the pegs thing is a myth with there no BS bike, they say it means body steering but I think its more no bull sh*t, proving its counter steering not peg pushing that turns a bike.
From advice gleaned from the many luminaries of these very pages, I have, on occasion tried to ride, gripping the tank with my knees, but have to admit, to do it for any length of time means I'm gonna have to bust out the thighmaster. It's hard work for a poor old lard arse like me. I too am a 'nuts to tank' as the still tender deep bruising from my accident a year last March can teste-fy (I've still got it, guys). In traffic and around town I'm guilty of covering, one or two fingered, the front brake, but I feel it gives me much more subtle control over low speed braking and less susceptible to snatching too much. On the open road I don't cover it, but in 'stop/go' riding it gives me more confidence, which makes me ride better. So, bad technique or no, it stays.
And yet only last week Whitham was waffling about weighting the pegs. I have had a go at this at about say about 50 mph on a stright road and if you push down hard enough the bike doe's go that direction i suppose its like hearing that Rossi needs a new pair of boots because within a race ,the soles are distroyed and also the rear break pads are finished ,mine would last about 40 years .Its horses for courses.
dont realy just braggin balls on tank with me knee grippin like fek with cheeck just off seat but am still crap somthing to doo with been an old git
Ah can't find vid... maybe as he (Dave Taylor) did it in the 70s; before counter steering was invented
Just illustrating the point that a bike's steering can be influenced in a variety of ways. Counter steering is what works for everyone but some people can steer bikes in ways that don't necessarily make immediate sense, until you put a lot of thought and/or reading/googling into it. This stuff is what makes riding a bike interesting I think, even when you get off it.
i can sit for hours doing all kinds of research into the technical side of how to ride, i might only use 10% of what i find but it really interests me
I just love you guys who buy a bike, garage queen it, few rides a year then put it away for the winter............long may you continue and it is very much appreciated. Because that means for those of us who cane a bike 12 months a year commuting have an endless supply of 2-3 year old low mileage, pampered Blades at cheap second hand prices....I am always asked how I can afford to run a superbike 20K miles a year...... well there you have it, a personal team of bike pamperers and minders, just gently running them in, blinging them up with tasty accessories Thanks guys...keep em coming It's all about the love
