Bloody ell, if a fault isn't found, then they should join Stevie Wonder in his piano repertoires. That';s a serious amount of crude dude.
Lol! If we needed a litre of oil every 80-90 miles then there'd be a pump nozzle next to the unleaded so we could fill up the oil at the same time as the fuel! Actually, with 160 miles between fill-ups I'd have to stop halfway between just for the oil bit! The person at the dealers who gave out that (mis-)information needs re-training*. (*a kick up the arse and told to read the manual from cover-to-cover)
How I wish Id not found this thread, Just finished fitting a dual injector to my 2011 ABS blade. finished in ample time so thought id investigate the weird burning smell id noticed after riding home from work (too dark to do it same night). Couldnt find anything obvious so tought Id test the oil (should be fine i thought Brand new bike only 2400 miles since last service and thay put in power 1)...FUCK ME! a dribble on the bottom of the stick! Is this seriously OK? this is more oil usage than my 1997 burnt on its last legs. not sure at this stage what the total capacity is, but are you telling me you guys have a standing order set up to Castrol? Ps; on a side note, seeing as im oil less and no where with Power 1 is open on Sundays do you think it would be allright to top up with Some Motul 5100 I have in my garage? (wouldnt normally but my bike is everyday transport and I daren't run it on that little oil. Cheers peeps!
good call that one! just checked online and it seems they stock it, so thats a quick visit there before the racing tomorrow! not happy with that sort of consumption tho...approximately £120 a year oil average :O
If you know someone with 1 of they're trade cards it will save you quite a few pennies. I bought semi the other week, when it was priced at £30. With card £24
OMG, This oil issue is really getting silly now.... if at the back of my mind before i bought a bike i had to try and source a ' trade ' card for oil due to the possibility of my new bike using Exxon Valdez amounts of oil.... i would walk away from the bike. Honda really need to get this bloody thing sorted.... and now before the next real Fireblade upgrade in 2014 (well rumour has it).
The oil wasn't for my blade mate. It doesn't use a drop. The oil was for my SP1 as I was giving it a service, and thought I'd give someone some helpful advice on saving some pennies. Edit: Just read this back and it sounds quite cheeky, like I'm having a dig, and I'm not. It was just incase you thought it was for my blade
I have to admit im really peeved that his is apparently acceptable by Honda. I loved the build and qulity of my old blade but im not so impressed with the new one. Power and tech is outstanding admittedly but way too many niggles for a Honda! Ill be speaking to my dealers workshop on Monday for sure.
No, the oil use age on some bikes is not acceptable, especially when Honda say it is! I am afraid you either put up with it or get something else.
Just put my first 1/2 litre of oil in after 4500 miles. Can't complain about that, I do ride with quite high revs most of the time!
Checked my 2012 blade last night, 2000 miles since its service in August, tiny dribble on the end of the stick. From the sounds of it this is normal though? Just ebayed a litre of castrol power 1 racing. How much goes in from bottom of the dipstick?
My 2012 so far hasn't shown any signs of excessive oil use, now has 3500 miles but I have done 2 oil changes.
My 2011 Blade has now done 16300 Miles and is fine on oil usage, However between 4000 - 8000 miles services i was using a fair bit of oil, but now it's great approx 500 ml in from my 12000 - 16000 miles service with a couple of Trackdays thrown in too.
Wow..... that is still a serious amount of the black stuff... but given the reacent issues with the RR8 and beyond i thought it was another newer blade suffering.
Just topped mine up - stopped off in Halfords on the way home. It took about 800ml to get it up to the the top marker of the dipstick Will keep a closer eye on it - prolly bank on putting in 400ml every 1000 miles then. Not unreasonable really and I have been giving it the full beans whenever possible.
I thought the level was supposed to be between the two markers on the stick, have I been doing it wrong??
No real patten to the oil usage on my 10 plate, sometimes it seems to drink it like a fish, other times doesn't use a drop. Admit it's slightly frustrating as my 929 doesn't use a drop, I do ride them both the same. But, the smiles I get from the bike put the oil thing to bed for me, just make sure I've got oil in the garage at all times and check the bike every time I go out for a ride on it.
