There have been many threads, should we, do we, who does and who doesn't? I put in 22 country miles in on Saturday and 4 of the six oncoming gave me a mutual acknowledgement, one that ignored me was riding a Yamaha I have no idea what the other bike was? Of the 4 that gave me the nod 1 was a mountain bike the other 3 were road cycles? Yes that's right I was on my mountain bike and other bikes gave me a nod followed by an alright mate, I naturally acknowledged the motorbikes and not one gave me the time of day lol
i see the same two bikes every day and they dont nod either and thats with me on my bike (twats) seem to see more of it lately, never used to be like that
I used to acknowledge fellow riders but now I rarely bother. Takes my focus off the road especially when having a spirited blast. Prefer a quick rise of the left hand if anything.
Im a bit old school, and I do nod to anyone on two wheels (except scooters im afraid). It only takes a nano second and makes me feel that Motorcycling comradery is still alive unlike the tin box drivers.
I've never bothered nodding at fellow mountain bikers though... given that we seem to be dying out (coz everyone is getting road bikes and a lycra fetish) I shall start nodding at mountain bikers when out on my GT...... I wont be nodding at the lycra brigade though
If I'm. Miss I very often don't have time, but I nod to bikers. Not scooter riders and 99% around me are 16yo chavs, Bristol innit I find mostly BMW riders can't be arsed to nod, I get more from HD riders on big choppers
Always to motorcyclists, never to scooter/moped-type-things. Except in London where we're busy dodging stuff!
I find its the bank manager/accountant/solicitor on the huge Japanese Harley clones wearing bright and shiny, squeaky leathers with their Schuberth's open, their mirror shades and wind socked microphone for speaking to their identically clad, telly tubby in kangaroo hide, wives on the pillion, all bought in a single visit to the dealer, who are the least likely to nod back. Not that I like to stereotype, but...
I'll nod to anyone on 2 wheels bar scooters. If I'm hauling a bit then I'll usually still nod, but don't look while I do it so have no idea if I get a nod back.
Not to cyclists.nod to everyone including scooters as I'm usually out on back country roads So the scooter riders I see are older generatIon out for long runs rather than your 16 yr old pain in the arse.
I'm happy to nod at scooters if they nod me. It's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog.
I nod to most, it's usually the the first and last if there's a ride out. Scooter lads are too busy knobbing about to realise what's going on around them
I nod to all bikers, it's the camaraderie thing. If a scooter nods to me I'll nod back as it probably gives the young lad who can't afford/old enough for a proper bike that little bit of a good feeling and one day they will quite likely be where we are. Nurture the young bikers! i should point out that I never owned a scooter as my first road bike was a ZXR400.
i always look at bikers coming the opposite way and nod.. i take it that if they nod there are not likely to be any hidden coppers along the stretch of road they have just come down, otherwise i would expect them to give a slow down signal. what i hate is when they flash their lights at you ,as that makes me think there is a trap ahead.
can't agree more. a kick out of the leg, wave but when I get a lash I always think there could be a speed trap ahead
I nod to anyone that I see nod to me. I definitely nod to people that I see everyday going the other way on my commute... Otherwise, mainly sporty bikes I nod to, (incl. nakeds), only because of past experience, I know that the odds of getting a nod back are pretty good. EDIT - Ever notice though that people are friendly with their nodding when you going the other way, but you pull up next to them at the lights and they are like unwavering steely eyed racers who dare not show an ounce of emotion...??? At lights I'll give ya a nod as well!!! I've met some decent people like that... Riding home together friends, I call em...
I give the nod to anyone on a bike, and 9 times out of 10 get a response. The 1 out of 10 that I NEVER get an returning nod from are the Harley et al. riders. One thing I noticed when I went from the 650 to the Blade, is that when I was riding the Suzuki I was usually the one to nod first; now I ride the Blade I tend to be the one returning the nod . RESPECT!!
Carl, mate. I love it. That's made my day a lot lighter. Have you ever wondered if its because your on a Repsol ? Did you get a nod from real bikes when you had the black one I am wondering?
