On 31st October I will be let loose in London. Mrs Stu is off down there for a work related thing and asked if I wanted to go with her the night before so that we could have a steamy and romantic (OK - quiet and subdued) night in a hotel together. Her work thing finishes about 4pm so she's letting me of the lead and told me to go and amuse myself for a day. So - what should I do? I've done the Eye already, and had a general wander around but I don't know the place at all. I plan to go to the NH museum (love it there), but other than that I've not really any plans. So, I have between the hours of 9am and 4(ish) pm to fill. If there are any forumites down there I could always see if I could meet you for lunch (as long as it's easy to get to). I don't want to spend all day on the tube, so If I can go to one stop and then use that as my hub that would be great. Come on then - give me ideas.
where's the hotel mate? kinda crucial for your day's planning / 1 tube stop self imposed restriction lol ps - you can get right across town in 1/2 hour on the tube so dont worry too much
and close to the NH museum (round corner from me) f*ck it i'll come also ha ha could do the new cable car? Emirates Air Line | Transport for London or go and check out the olympic park? they must be doing tours there now? (if your into that - i am) or do what i would do - get hammered on the south bank and each street food in borough market!
Have to concur. I've been once, for three hours, dint do a quarter of it, bored the people I was with shitless, hyperventilating infront of all those marvellous toys. Need to go back, probably on my own, and spend a good day maybe more just soaking it up.
If its borough market near London bridge, there- must be as the food market looks lush, but always been closed when I've got there. Kev goes all the time
It's the nuts mate, worked there for a year, there Is a fish restaurant which does prawn wraps outside. They are class!! Go up one Sunday and have a few beers, love it!
Yes yes yes - the science museum. I've never been so that's a definite. I don't mind spending the whole day there either if it's good and popping out for some prawns for lunch. Feel free to join me if you want the more the merrier I don't know which hotel we are stopping in as she's in control of that. Once I find out where we are I'll let you know, but if I'm right I think we'll be in one near the museum anyway. I'm really looking a forward to it.
Only thing about the Science Museum is they've closed the boat/ship section. I am ****ing livid. If you fancy a mooch I like to walk from Waterloo (London Eye) to London Bridge along the river. You'll pass the superb South Bank centre, the Oxo Tower, the Tate Modern (and if you bring a fancy camera you might see one of the local Peregrines. They sit up there looking hard. I seem to remember the local pair are called Bert and Misty) the recreation of Skakespeare's Globe theatre, the recreation of the Golden Hinde. Top scoff and coffee to be had along the way. The other walk I do is from the Tower of London along the river (pretty well signposted) past Wapping to Canary Wharf. Both give a lovely perspective to London. If you time it right you can walk on the foreshore. You can get one of the fast cat Thames Clippers back. One of the advantages of the journeys east of Tower Bridge is the speed restrictions are looser. The big ones do 32knots which is mustard standing on the open deck at the back! These are just a couple of suggestions. If you let me know more interests/bucket list I'll see what I can do. I'd love to show you around my city myself but I have a broken leg at the mo and cannot walk far.
I know a good place, unfortunately for you, it opens only Sundays from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. The Church Party Bar - Home
Lambeth - That is a very kind offer and it's a real shame about the leg. It would be great to be shown around by a local. I still think that the Science museum will be high on my list as I'm a science geek and from what I've heard it's a great day out.
Yeah, go on Stu, give him a piggy back. I've seen stranger things wandering the streets of the Smoke.
Are you referring to me on Tuesday night again by any chance Ken. ? What about: Roof top walk over the O2 arena - Greenwich North tube station Take a Big Bus tour bus tour round the city, sounds corny but its great fun and very interesting, you can hop on and hop off when ever you like and will get potted tour and history of our wonderful capital. I never knew there were underground rivers running under the square mile until I took one of these tours when I had a meeting cancelled at last minute and was bored. London's best hop-on, hop-off sightseeing tour | Big Bus Tours Go for a curry in Brick Lane - Shoreditch High Street (overground) or Aldergate tube station Tower of London - Tower Hill tube station St Pauls Cathedral - St Pauls tube station Stu there so many things you can do if you just cant be arsed there is always a few pints in the Nags Head - Covent Garden Tube station turn right and its on the corner of James and Floral Street followed by a drunken stagger round Covent Garden to find a 'I am sorry I am pissed' present for the Mrs.
It is a shame about the leg. Just saw surgeon - at least another 2 months to go with this meccano frame on. If the tiny Alan Turing exhibition is still on at the Science Museum I can heartily recommend it. Superb. The scoff is better over the road at the V&A. Careful crossing the road. It looks like it's pedestrianised but it's not and a lot of the locals see it as a Ferrari/Lamborghini drag strip.
Still? When I left the science museum to go look at the Leonardo folio's at the V&A it was a DB5 that nearly twatted me.
