I have just fitted a akrapovic carbon slip on can and it now runs better than ever, gone is the slight hesitation between 4-5K rpm and pick up is fantastic so i am really pleased with the results as it makes the bike far more smoother to ride now.
But what i have noticed is that at idle it tends to hunt a little, not a lot but enough to annoy. It seems to hover between say 100-150 rpm at idle speed. I have just got back from a 150 mile run and it still does it? I have checked for leaks and all is fine, does anybody know how to stabilise the rpm at idle? Did other people experiance this?
    Thanks.

    Yep... Power Commander ..

Everyone has reported similar results and ended up buying a power commander

If you fit a power commander the flat spot at low rpm you mentioned will be gone completely

As standard the fireblade wouldn't pull your foreskin back before 6k rpm but by getting rid of the restrictions via a can and PCV/pcIII the engine is superb

If I'd known that I'd have bought one years ago (Sorry...I just had to beat Givover to saying it)

So how do Honda dealers who fit this kit as standard do without telling owners that they need a Power commander? Surely the manufacturer would not endorse a said kit and sell?
    Or am i missing something?

Well you don't need a power commander but they Would help get the best out of the changes you have made.

Honda would recommend the akrapovic as it's homologated and they're designed to run on a standard bike. But like I said to get it right a remap is needed. Also deactivating the O2 sensor makes the bottom end smoother so it's worthwhile doing it.

The slight hunting you mentioned seems to happen to all of them after fitting a can. I wouldn't worry about it.

Mine doesn't hunt at tickover, but definitely hunts at low speed/low throttle openings combined with a highish gear - solved by using a errrr lower gear...but makes me more conscious of the noise hmmmm

Mine doesn't hunt at idle at all and the fueling is really good on and off the throttle. I'm just using a downloaded map for now.

Only fault I can find is if I reall crack it open dead quick form small throttle opening it seems to hesitate/big down for a second before pulling out if it.

I think the hunting at idle is due to the O2 sensor trying to alternate fueling with the new can fitted.

My mate has an 08 with pcIII and race fit and doesn't have a problem either.

Normally happens when an open pipe is fitted without a fuelling module.
I'm assuming this can has no baffle fitted?

I've got the Akrapovic race can fitted (without CAT) and the bike runs sweet without a power commander!!

Was going to get a power commander fitted and get the bike dyno'd, however following indepth discussions with various tunning/dyno companies decided not to bother.

However the Akrapovic pipes fitted by dealers are the road legal pipes with CAT.

How come you decided against it? The dyno people mustn't have sold it very well to you!

I got the free akro pipe with cat when I got mine, I wasn't going to fit it as I like the look of the standard pipe but to hell with it I fitted the akro last week and totally love the sound! Runs pretty well to me too.

It is a can without a cat in it, i am running it without the noise baffle also. So given that the give away versions contain a cat i can now see that the ECU is having problems fuelling it on idle!!!
    Thanks for the informative replies.
