Really great thread Colin and will follow with interest. I have been thinking of doing one on the performance upgrades to my SP2 but wasn't sure if there would be any interest.
Well guys, this weekend the Sp will be getting stripped down to the bare bones and the engine will be getting took out. I'm kinda apprehensive, but at the same time looking forward to it. Every day is a school day
Just got this months PB from Mr Postman & the first bike in the issue is titled 'If Carlsberg built SP-1s'
Mine better drop in the door today also then. I'm just starting the strip down just now after a cuppa.
Started the stip down of the bike today. This bike has been really easy to work on so far and all in with all the work I done today it only took me 2 1/2 hours to get to this stage. Basically I stripped the fairings off, removed the front wheel, petrol tank (no that easy as you have to drain the coont). Drained all the coolant and removed the radiators, and airbox. Anyway enough of my rambling here's some pics Stored the fairings up my dads loft (not that I take up much space of his anyway ) Drained the coolant and Removed the exhaust and airbox Didn't get it all my way though, bike drew first blood Tomorrow will be a long 1, as I take the engine out in prep to get the valve clearances done, and valve stem oil seals replaced. Oh and I also have to sort the engine bolt I managed to shear (hence first blood ). Loads more pics to come, hope I don't bore you all.
It even manages to look mean in bits. That sub frame looks like the engineers after thought. What's the little grey box strapped to its RHS, Col'?
Blimey - I was going to start the strip / clean / rebuild on my mind today, but had to go to work for 3 hours on the 'puter then 3 hours cleaning window frames (don't ask...) I def don't have the patience of ability you have Colin - need to start getting parts for it really
The rear subframe did look weird to me too Ken. So much so the last time I stripped the bike I went online to check if it was an aftermarket subframe. Not what I'd expect with a Honda unit but it is genuine. Not sure what that grey box is now you've pointed it out. Could be the alarm. I'll check tomorrow.
looks like your really getting going mate, just the pictures are enough to scare me into not doing anything like that great thread!
Well I didn't manage to get the engine out today, as the sheared engine bolt has kinda put a halt to play at the moment, but I'll get that sorted during the week. I did manage to get it to a point where it's only a matter of spending another day and I'll have the engine on the bench. Also the wheels are now off and ready for powder coating. I'll keep the pics for once that's done then post them all up at once.
