Ok so the blade ( 2010 with about 10k miles ) started to make a rattle at about 4000rpm up to 6000rpm ( wind noise etc makes it harder to hear after 6k ) Did the usual pulling clutch in etc, checked chain, however the noise alters with revs not road speed! it's still under warranty, so took it stealers the grease monkey takes a look n a listen. Seconds later says its the cam chain tensioner !!! Says its about the fifth one he's done in the last 12 months ? Well turns out he was right, rattles gone So just thought I'd let you lot know as I haven't heard that tensioners failed on this model ?
honda's like tensioners. replaced three on my bro's cbr600 and one on my old RR5 blade (10,000 miles). only make of bike I have had to change them...nearly as bad as the VFR's rec/reg unit lol :s
In warranty or not? Ps-glad it's sorted and no I hadn't heard of this on the later blades but then 5 in 12 months is not excessive is it?
Cheers. Not 100% sure mines tensioner, but it's just on 16k miles and has a slight rattle.. Could be normal though? It's due an oil change and rear tyre, so ill get the guy who does the tyre change to have a look. It's under warranty still (2years?) so ill get it looked at before 16th Jan.
some tell tail signs is it gets quieter when it warms up. last time I done one it was a 40min job and cost me £70 to buy the part.
no 05, but here is one for 08 HONDA CBR1000RR8 FIREBLADE, CAM CHAIN/TENSIONER : Genuine Motorcycle & Scooter Parts & Spares
Looks like mines decided it needs replacing, has all the symptoms. Unfortunately the bikes out of warranty so thinking of doing it myself as running out of time to get it to Arthur before my Euro tour. Read up on it and doesn't look like a major job. Only thing that concerns me a little is the requirement to wind and hold the spring in during removal and replacement. Honda do a tool for this, but the cheapest I've seen one is £148! Has anyone competed the job themselves on a 08-11 and has solution to winding and holding the spring down? Any other tips would be appreciated. Seen the YouTube vid with the dude his cut down screwdriver, is this the best option in ace of the Honda tool? Cheers
Pretty sure professor dad will have a tool for that dude. Send me the link and ill show him. I'm over the unit for 3 hours killing time whilst Lisa's car gets serviced tomorrow morning. Could do it then if you can get the part? Sure dad won't mind taking the glory after we've stripped it and then put it back together ourselves.... Beer o'clock after lol
When Arthur took mine off he didn't have a tool so he made one quickly, only took him 2 mins so must be easy lol
Cheers mate, let me try and get the parts today, although think in most cases it's next day delivery to Honda dealers as they don't stock
It's an easy job just a pain in the ass to get into the mounting bolts, the tools easy to make you just need a bit of tin cut into a small letter T the T slides into the CT and locks the screw in place in a small locating recess in the end of the CT. Think my tool I made costs me about 10p....lol
I don't know mate, did read your thread and think MrB said it only for the your bike and even certain years- have you got the part number off the box?
I was shiting myself as he was cutting it with a band saw so close he was basically trimming his finger nails at the same time! I swear that blokes got a screw loose!!
