Mine has gone noisy - while bike def. heading for retirement of some sort being told 'ooh - get that done or it could wreck your engine' Valve clearances were done in Jan this year - maybe should have got chain at same time. Any accurate info. appreciated as all I've had is 'guesstimates' so far
Hi Allblade, Firstly its unusual for a cam chain to be noisy on an 08 model. If it is the cam chain thats noisy, you'll be wanting to change the tensioner first. Changing a cam chain is not an easy job to do, will probably take around 5 or 6 hours. Depends on ability I suppose. Hope this helps.
OK, thanks for that - how long to change the tensioner and how much for a new one ? Dealer also said 'change tensioner, then see how it sounds'
yep - lots by all accounts, but was well overdue - done 10k since that work I think - lost track somewhat
Kinhell..............60,000 clicks on an 08............do you EVER get off it!!.IMO at 60,000 clicks I think I,d be changing the chain n tensioner.
Yeah I would agree with Haggler, didnt realise it had that milage, won't do it any harm. Its a fiddely job really. Better of calling a main dealer and arranging a cheap fixed price for the job, like end of next month. Any service manager would be happy for that kind of work a few days before Christmas, keeps his tech busy for a good few hours and puts a few quid in to till even if its not there usuall labour rate. Be cheeky and ask them to fit both for £40 quid and the end of next month.
