Same here - being a short ar$e doesnt help either mate does it!! but do need the tank bag imo for wallets, change gadget and map reading though... i take mine off when we stop and then not worried about leaving the bag on the back of the bike etc as only t shirts and flip flops in it!! lol
Agree, small removable bag of 'valuables' very handy. Giv's using a tail pack from me, barney a baglux cover and bag while I carry a Ventura bag with his other stuff. You are welcome to try paniers but tail section very narrow and don't think they sit right.
Some good ideas coming this way folks, however, I feel there's going to be a bit more milage in this one, perhaps it would be best if we asked Ken to move the posts regarding luggage to the relevant thread in touring, just concerned about clogging Colin's origanal post? And perhaps some of the information may not get through to other forum members if they do not read this thread. Just a suggestion.
Looks a bit wobbly to me, still, you could manage a trip of about three months with all that space lol
exactly the same as what I took away For my main tour (infact i borrowed daves us20) and the Kreiga stuff doesnt move an inch mate... totally rock solid if strapped down correctly. But for Scotland I'll just bring the one bag - us 30
tbh if you are keeping the bike a while and have the £££ the ventura has got to be the best system in terms rigidity, performance and ease fo use - it just looks w*nk lol i just like the kreiga stuff as its so flexible in terms of bike / solutions. anything with bunjees and wraps the bike i stay clear of as my oxford tail pack moved everywhere and wrecked my R6's rear end in a week.
No mate, you hook on straps to the sub frame in under the rear seat, these then poke out with the seat on with little hooks, the straps then loop over the bag and link to the hooks and you anchor them down - really fast and simple to do. Here is a better pic.... I taped my rear incase (lastminute.com) but don't think it's needed, will stick some clear cover on just to be safe this year though
Ventura does look a bit rubbish - but it holds a vast amount of stuff in a way that I cannot see Kreiga doing - not used Kreiga so not fair to comment, but laptop, DSLR, chargers, satnav and the other things that make up my kitchen sink of luggage contents soon mount up - hence me often using 85 litres of space - Also you can't easily get 36 bottles of beer, wine and BBQ food for 12 in Kreiga kit very easily (was a bit top heavy at car park speeds but still did a ton...)
Just found this Krauser rack that sits in the rear seat position. Apologies for not finding a pic with a fireblade but I found one of an umph sporting one. You can see where all the straps can go through. Plenty of anchor points to the plate. Now I move my concern to the locking pins and strenght where the rear seat fits in. Have a look, there are some on EBay. Not cheap though. £128.00 and that's before you buy the luggage. Reckon I'll post mine via DHL
If your going down that route, get a spare seat and screw a bag to it!! Been done many a time and saves a fortune lol
Colin you're far better letting the bike carry the weight not your shoulders. I once rode to "Stormin' the Castle" motorbike rally in Northumberland with some clothes and 12 tinnies in a rucksack and could hardly walk when I got there.
That's the joys of the kriega mate. It doesn't sit on your shoulders, you can actually put your finger in the gap at your shoulders. It spreads the load across your chest and waist. I've travelled for 9 hours with 1 on and another 9 hours back again with no pains at all.
