I need to install heating in the house, we only have electricity and no gas and the evidence of a condensation problem due to the overall lack of heating means it is time to sort it out properly. I have worked out that I need 1 x 1.7Kw, 2 x 2.55 Kw and 2 x 3.4 kw heaters and want the automatic type Does anyone know the cheapest place to get these, which brand to get or avoid, anyone in the trade who could help with a discount etc Thanks for the help, would like to be warm for christmas Forgot to add we are selling the house, so need the price to be low as we will not be ultimately benifiting from it budget is £1500 max the less the better
If it wasnt for the lack of gas you could get a small combi system installed for that. My mate had the same issue a few years ago and bought a load of oil filled radiators. I dont think brands matter too much, its just a case of tracking down the best prices and checking their efficiency against each other.
I don't know how things have improved over the years but back in the day I had a theory that night storage heating salesmen were actually government agents. Anybody they could talk into buying them were put on a list and then chemicals would be slowly added to their water supply that would render them sterile and unable to breed. This would help the average IQ stay up. It's no coincidence that the decline in night storage heating salesmen and the rise of the chav coincided. But I'm sure the things are better now Jamie.
Who the frick do you know that would install a combi system for £1500. That doesn't even cover materials.
In fairness it was only a 3 room terraced house with short runs to the rads. Having said that, i paid £2500 for a Baxi combi installation to be plumbed up to my existing rads that were originally on old 22mm pipes before i moved into my 3 bed having already lifted the floorboards for another job, which i thought was quite reasonable. Oil filled electric rads are a good short term solution though as you can sell them on, move them with you, or use them to add value if selling.
Thanks for the advice, they want £5000 to route to the house .... From each house !!! Add that to the installation and gas is a no go ! The garden is also to small for LPG tank so that's out as well
Jamie..... could look to give you a quote... i run small electrical contracting company ? do you just want supply only for heaters ?
Us it a well insulated house? I had them in my first house with no gas option, the house was always warm and tarrif at the time had a 2 hour top up mid afternoon. From memory you need seperate meter and new feed to each heater. There are some new electric convector systems linked to central control in house via microwave link to consider, makes system work like regular gas heating control but may cost a fortune to run!
Rob thanks a quote would be great as described night storage automatic so far quote for elner units £1362.56 delivered and Stiebel £1141.85 The wiring is done and I am on a economy 7 setup, when we moved in there were three heaters, 2 did not work and third was on/off so binned them, kept meaning to sort it but as usual we have got by for far to long eg 5 years lol Insulation wise its terraced insulated cavity, double glazed and 100mm roof insulation as far as I know
