Reading the bad news today that another members bike were stolen, got me thinking, how easy would my bike be to steal, it's in a garage with an up and over door and just the steering lock on, probably not enough security!
Garaged with a ground anchor, Almax chain (only through the rear wheel though), Squire SS65 padlock and digital baby listener Had 2 bikes stolen (at the same time) from this garage when I had crappy chains and no baby listener.
There is a device on amazon for 30 quid that has an alarm you plug in,in your house/ bedroom and a motion detector in the garage or shed.I'm buying one when the bike is back in the garage during the summer.Good thing is they don't know you know they are there.locks etc buys you time and inconveniences them.
In the garage next to my house, chained and locked with alarm system. I also park my car right up to the door so it can't be opened without first moving my car.
Almax chain all the way, series 4 and ground anchor. garage door bolted inside and out, CCTV plus a few other items to feck the little bastards off
disc locked chain through wheels ground anchor steering lock and garage defender just looking at making some sort of contraption with a scaffold bar going across garage about knee height to also stop bike being wheeled out
An up and over door and a steering lock is a receipe for disaster, you need to change this asap. Mine is ground achored, chained through the back wheel, steering wheel locked, garage is alarmed that links to the house alarm, up and over door locked with extra locks on the sides, 10mm perspex screwed into the window frame on the insde and frosted...... even thinking now of adding shock sensors to the door.... just keep it evolving and don't get lazy and you will keep your bike.
Chained to anothe bike beside it but we don't really Have The bike theft problems over here that you guys get there.
+1. Get more security. Factory alarm. Disc lock. Chained to ground anchor. Car parked up against garage door. And a baseball bat accessible on the way out to defend my property.
I have 2 data tool ground anchors and data tool chains both the same and thatcham cartogary 1 rated one front wheel 1 rear. Two disc locks. Garage door protected with a defender and alarmed! I dreed to think the value of the contents of my garage!
The car is parked up against the door at evenings but nothing during the day when at work, thinking of a garage defender to start with, are they any good and specific ones to go for ?
Bikes are kept at my parents farm out in the sticks, which has cctv covering most areas. Ground anchor on Ducati, disc locks on both. One of parents cars are normally parked blocking them in aswell. Both bikes have factory alarms aswell, crime is pretty non existent where they live which is why i keep all bikes at there's as opposed to mine in town.
In the garage with a ground anchor and thatcham 1 chain on the rear wheel and a thatcham 1 chain wrapped round the front wheel and the steering lock on, also got a disc lock and another couple of chains if i fancy putting them on aswell. Was an alarm on it but had that removed as it annoyed the shit out of me.
And I bet you all keep all your tools in the same garage as your bikes, just what the toe rags need - angle grinders, hacksaws, hammers, chisels etc. When they broke into my mates garage they just took the roof off (well a couple of panels of corragated sheet).
Very true indeed, in my job i see a lot of domestic burglaries and a big fav of the offenders is to use tools from the home owners garage/shed to break into their house, have the garage alarmed and have that alarm linked to the main house alarm, let them take a piece of roof off, most burglaries happen at night so you will be out of the bed and have bat in hand in under a min. I use a Cisco wirelss receiver which can have upto 15 shock sensors or pir's added to it.... bloody best bit of security i have done.
all our bikes are stored at dads works thank god alarm linked to the police plus our building is right next to the big police station totally ftw
With out sounding to stupid/pessimistic I just don't bother with security items. Alarm - I have one now but don't want it, drains battery, goes off for no reason and when it does no one gives a shit anymore and ignore it We all pay insurance, my insurance says it must be in the locked garage at my home address. If they break into the garage they will take the bike ! Simples I don't see why along with my over priced premium I should spend hundreds on additional security which most good thieves will bypass in seconds to save £5 on my policy Also everyone I know who had all the best kit still got there bike lifted so what's the point. What annoys me is we should live in a world where this does not happen to good, honest people who save and make sacrifices to have something special in there life, who work hard and respect the law and the people around them. I also hate the fact that we are at fault if we don't spend hundreds on these items by the police, like we deserved to have our bike nicked because it was in our own locked garage but we didn't have two ground anchors, 3 chains, retina access and two armed guards I am sure others feel differently or disagree but that's just my opinion
