TV Plus Sound Bar

Right Guy's i am needing to pick the brains of the techy people on the board......

I have been trying all day to set up a Sound bar to my partners TV with no luck at all, The telly is a 51" Samsung 3D Plasma and the sound bar is a Samsung E450 with bluetooth and a wireless sub-woofer.....

Now the only sound i can get out of this set up is when i stream music via bluetooth from my macbook but i cant get any sound when connected to tv output via HDMI or AV cables. I have tried numerous combinations of in and out sockets and using the tv menu to change settings but still not playing ball.

Does anyone on the forum have a similar set up??

I have an LG telly and LG sound bar in my own place and the setting up was a doddle so i've no idea what is wrong with this Samsung system

 

They changed the way the connections work a couple of years ago so that the TV can output the sound via HDMI (usually marked ARC on the back of the TV). Connect this to the HDMI socket on the soundbar marked TV. The arse would be if you were trying to use an optical cable on the TV.

I was intending to try an optical cable next as i cant see anything marked ARC on the telly, i have two HDMI ins on the TV and one IN and one OUT on the soundbar but i've tried every combo of ins and outs to no avail, i'm stumped now to be honest

 

It would appear your tv doesn't have ARC so no audio out via HDMI, otherwise you would connect the ARC HDMI socket on the tv to the HDMI in on the unit. The other option is as you have stated, and that is to use the optical out from the tv to the optical in on the unit. also make sure you have chosen the correct input source ( digital, aux, hdmi, bt, usb ) this can be done from the remote or from the second button down from the top, situated on the left side when looking at the rear of the unit.

 

sorry to drift off slightly, what do you think of the soundbar,
I was in the local bose center and was very impressed with
how clear and loud their one was so I want one now but not
wanting to pay £1300

 

Soundbars are ok for the money and they blend in fine with the TV although the sound quality is probably not as good as a full surround system but then you dont have to run any wires as a lot of the systems have wireless/bluetooth as standard

 

One thing with any/most HDMI or optical outputs is if your not taking it from the TV, say your taking it from a Sky box, Digibox, Blueray player etc you will have lipsync problems, the output has to be from the TV or its not in sync, some devices have a delay option to help resolve lip sync problems....

That said I seem to be one of few that see the problem.....lol

I've got a Toshiba lappy with HDMI............I plug into my Samsung 42 flat screen (HDMI plug in back of TV...theres 2 )............plays downloaded movies but NO SOUND?? from TV?..............only from the lappy.Any thoughts?

 

Anything with Bose name on it is very good.I WANT their soundwave telly.God that is the mutts nuts.I couldnt afford it so I'm still making do with my V35 system.I tried saving for the telly until the blade came along.

 

open control panel, then go to personalize
now go to display settings.in there select monitor 2
and click the tab saying extend desktop to this monitor.
if this doesnt work go to the sound settings to see if
the tv link has been muted.I set my laptop not to sleep
or powerdown when the lid is closed.then when I close the
lid the full desktop is transferred to the TV which is how I
watch my films.

 

My problem now solved with the use of an optical cable, thanks for your input guy's

new toys.

 

Bose have a perceived decent sound quality.... They have a boosted upper mid to give the sound an apparent more dynamic... A hole in the midrange if you will..it irritates the tits off me.
I personally think its overpriced, but on the other hand I have just bought a Bose soundlink air for the kitchen... Good for background music, not for critical stuff... And it's ok for what it is.

Bowers and Wilkins have not long bought out some good kit for streaming, as have others like linn and naim...musical fidelity also have some great stuff out. Saying that, anything beats the inbuilt speakers of the tv, but I would go with something that can be added on to, future proofing to a certain degree.
