Surely if the offer is that low you could just ask the insurance company replace the bikes like for like. I doubt they would save much money that way ?

my sister had a volcano orange(very rare colour) mini written off by some old biddy , they were offering her £3000 until i told her to get the insurance company to find one the same colour . they obviously then looked online for the same car and ended up paying her £5000 as they found they were that price and there was only 2 for sale in the uk.

I can vouch for that too.I had my van written off by a lad in the snow. They offered me peanuts for it so I asked them to find me a van with the low miles, never used as a builders van, full history, sign written, mint bodywork and the spec mine had for the money they offered. They couldnt so I made them cough up the £1500 I could have lost. They are worst than thieves.

There are a number of things you can do - you need to keep your cool - and don't speak on phone but do it all by email or writing so there is good solid history - if it needs to go to ombudsman you then have all the evidence - much easier than trying to find phone recordings of conversation and avoids 'he said / she said' situations.

Remember to always work on the pre-excess offer price, not what you will actually get as this is what matters in agreeing settlement figure. Lost track of number of times people say 'I can't replace my bike for what I'm being offered' only to then learn they have a £750 or similar excess, when you add that and say 'If you went to your local dealer with the full offer price could you get a bike pretty much like your one' they often reply 'well I guess so yes'

Firstly from memory you have good pictures of the bikes - send emails to your nearest 5 dealers with the pictures and mileage saying 'I want to replace this bike - what have you got in stock and price' - dont mention its for insurance, just say no px cash offer. When you get replies keep these - this is you 'evidence' of real prices.

Next step is to look over Bike Trader and MCN for dealers in UK advertising bikes like your one - scan / screen dump the adverts with phone numbers - dont list private sales - say to insurer you want a figure to replace bike like for like from a dealer with some warranty and backup / security of ownership etc.

Send the results from the above to the Insurer and say 'I look forward to receiving a revised offer from you within 14 days based on the information enclosed which details values of replacement bikes - if the offer does not reflect the prices I have researched for you then I will have no option but to raise a formal complaint with the Insurance Ombusdman as you will have failed to treat your customers fairly in regard to settlement figures'

Hope the above helps - let us know how you get on

Sorry to hear of your plight mate,my mate had a HUSABERG nicked from his garage, the same scenario, his daughter seen it going into a (what shall i say) "a travelling gentleman's site " told MR PLOD, and their answer was, "well we just cant go onto the site without just cause" what the fuck is that all about then. to cap it all it is an illegal site as well, you know, the usual trick, a "frontman" buys the field, wait for a bank holiday weekend, and next thing you fukin know 3 days later its a fully functioning "gypo" site.

Well talking of above, my mates dad an ex staff sgt went into a camp site looking for my mates cr125.He walked straight in and a big( the boss)came out and asked him to clear off not so politely.Eddie told him to bring that bike to him or he will call on his walkie talkie his squadron mates waiting in 3 transits outside the camp.It was given to him in less than a minute. He started it up and rode out.3 vans with only one in each.Thats what I call balls.

Yep. Thieves should get what they deserve...

My '11 600RR went from whites row (APCOA with CCTV and 24x7 attendants) in Feb. Cops don't give a monkeys. Even though the attendants chased them out of the car-park twice on the day, the MET didn't bother turning up when called. The MET just say the car prk should do more. WTF can the bloody carpark do when the MET won't turn up when called? They'll get charged if they touch the little frackers.

On the plus side the insurance (groupama were the under-writers) was pretty damn good. I was absolutely gutted, but the insurance paid out quickly and a reasonable amount (If I didn't care about the colour I could have pretty much replaced it like for like with the settlement). I did though, so ended up buying a new fireblade instead... Apart from the hassle (And now paranoia for my new bike) with getting reinsured when my current policy is up the insurance did pretty much all I could ask for.

As Insurance companies we actually try and fulfil our obligations - it prob. helped your bike was still quite new so much easier to value get true replacement cost.

I hope you have fitted a tracker to your replacement bike with movement sensor and geofencing (so it moves out of its area it alerts you) - if you still use same car park they will return for another bike. Also disk lock or good lock to attach it to something - all slows them down. Current issue of RiDE mag has a feature on trackers.

Changed parks... Now have a tracker, chains for home and away and a U-Lock... I liked the look of the disklok someone posted a picture of a week or so ago that was permanently attached...

Sadly the underwriter doesn't recognise the tracker, but do recognise a monster-xl chain...

I had a fazer stolen, i went ballistic cause i was worried about insurance hikes etc. i knew the insurance company would pay out but i know having claim would kill me price wise next year.... like a tit id just got in and left in on my drive at the old house.... so it was at my address with no addition security added like it should.
I went to every low life pub i knew and "forced questions"

2 days later my bike turned up on my drive with a sorry note ( yes really on a post it note) a £200 quid in a envelope though door....

took a bit of explain to plod and insurance company, but hey how claim free and my bike back.

anyway good luck with insurance company
