Well on Friday the local Martin Jennings run that was due to take place today got chanced due to the imminent arrival of hurricane katia, also a few of us at work were asked to do extra standby's over the weekend to cover any damage to our system! And so far nothing, there's hardly a breath of wind outside down here in sunny Cornwall.
I haven't seen the news all day i've been far to busy watching the F1 and just watch the last of the british superbikes now. lol
Due to Hit directly over Shetland at 9pm on Monday with 50 FT waves Very Strong winds over Scotland so you bike riding Jocks best put some duds on under them wimmins dresses yow wear!lol Hurricane Katia left the coast of Canada yesterday having Travelled North from the Caribbean and along the eastern side of USA.
Bit of a bugger really we were originally told it would be coming in down this way later on Saturday! I was hoping to earn a few £ out of it! Damn
You can't beat a good pastie, what do you say? But no i'm an overhead linesman in the electricity industry.
yes lets hope it good for next sunday instead although it turned out good today. are you going on it next week? i will be but depending on the weather which bike i take. p.s dont envy your job!
I'm planing on going along, but like you say it really all comes down to the weather, I take no pleasure on getting soaked through on a ride out! As for my job I really enjoy it, I know working at heights and messing around with electricity isn't for everyone tho.
Did you see the programme were the old Dude goe's up in a Helicopter and then earths himself to the live pylon wires 500.000 volts i thinks while he then fixes them the copter pilot is a top man due to how close he gets to the power ines. if you missed it it was on you tube Ps love a good cornish Pastie went down to Padstow last year and Buntered loads of them beast.
I remember seeing a bit of that, I think it was the same program anyway. Did it also have a special camera on the helicopter showing the energy lines radiating around the conductors?
Judging by the winds, the leftovers of the hurricane reached Berkshire in the small hours of last night.
Judging by all noise and wheelie bins blown over on our road the hurricane hit us last night. Also a bike with a cover on got blown over close to where my daughter goes to nursery. Went over to the hose but nobody was home/up. Decided to leave the bike on the deck as it could have been damaged and I had no pen or paper. It was a dilema as I what to see bike the right way up.
You're right. A bit gusty up 'ere in Deb'n but the worst that's happened is it blowing up my cat's arse, which is bloody hilarious to watch but doesn't do much for his dignity. Still, I can almost see the Met Office from my house so you can't expect them to be too accurate at this distance. They should flog the bloody super computer and look out of the window occasionally.
it's been a bit ropey up this way and has just stopped raining - pal of mine is up in Oban on his bike and he says it's rained for 3 days solid...
