Hi all, as I am a new member on here forgive me if this is something that is usually covered but I was wondering if any members would be interested in meeting up at a track day event this year? I would definitely be up for it and we could even make it a two day event because some organisers run two dayers, like No Limits, they occasionally run sessioned days the first day, usually a Monday and open pit lanes on the Tuesday, (I think they only do this at Cadwell). Camping is allowed there and we could enjoy some beers, a BBQ and general chat. We could even make it an Annual event if there is enough interest. Thoughts anyone?
We had a meet last March/April but due to bad weather it was a poor turn out. I hope to do a few trackdays this year, possible Cadwell but it's a long way from me. And was hoping to get a chance to meet up with others from here at the same time. For the moment I have Rocky in April pen marked as my first
These are always a great idea, and can work - challenge is location - the 3 possible central tracks I think would / can work are: Darley Moor - don't knock it unless you have ridden it Mallory Park - tends to be cheaper but is having noise issues Dnnington Park - amazing track but more expensive that the others If you look at Oulton / Cadwell / Snett / Brands / Anglesey they are just too far flung in my experience - if you can find a Friday or weekend day one of those 3 worth doing. Silverstone are looking to run their own trackdays this year - no operator and they could be cheaper - its a good track but they do like to red flag it. I think you need to avoid late July and August when many are away.
Glad to hear that Rich, I'm sure we can arrange to meet up sometime and have some fun. I hope we can get some more members interested. I was thinking of later in the year for the forum meet to try and get some decent weather, say June, July, August time but I am up for some track time anytime so just let me know and we can arrange something
Alblade - thanks for that mate, I am up for meeting up anywhere and you are right, central would make more sense. We just need to gauge how many members would be interested. I like the idea of meeting up and being able to put a face to the name
I would be up for this, shifts permitting.Darley Moor is a cracking circuit although I have only spectated but would certainly go for a trackday there.
One thing Darley moor has going for it is that it is cheap - it could almost be possible to hire for exclusive use on a day of our choice - Ashbourne is very close for a few beers after - it is a bit out in the wilds, or there is a camp site over the road that may have a bar - downside is that its flat as pancake and shaped like a dairy lee triangle - but a number of teams use if for testing so can't be all that bad. The other wildcard is the charity track day at RAF Valley - these are cheap (£50 a day) and for those who don't want to go on track its awesome road riding to get there through Wales - for social there is camping / B&B at Rhosneigor next to it. There are likely to be 3 again this year but I fully appreciate its the top end of Anglesey so for many it is simply too far - but at price it could tempt a few to do a few sessions who are unwilling to pay £150+ for a day in June / July plus other costs.
I'd love to do track days but I honestly couldn't face putting the Blade on track incase I dropped it. Lame I know but I'd be gutted. Also the tracks up here are pants so no point in even thinking about buying a track bike.
That would be a long trip to get to any decent tracks for me Jimbo. By the time I got there and back in the van I would be at least £100 in diesel alone and 300 miles round trip never mind anything else. It would be a dear old game if I started. That and me being me it wouldn't just be a bag of bones to ride about on either. My OCD would kick in
This post is gathering momentum now and there is obvious interest from a few members, the difficult part is going to be which track and when? I am open to any suggestions so please keep posting them and we will see what can be arranged
I've got a bike known as 'The Fridge' which will be available at RAF Valley, described by an RAF Hawk pilot who rode it there as 'bloody lovely, just buy a quickshifter for it please'
