I'll be doing this again! just a little reminder to members doing a euro trip this year... Ooooo, I can't wait!!!!
Great vid Si! Watched it all the way through , gave me a right stiffy it did! Awesome switchbacks, reminded me of Cadwell. Isn't this just the reason we buy bikes? How can you own a bike and not do a trip to Europe? That guy with the trailer gave you a run for your money, thought he had you for a moment!
Fantastic footage there Si, truly inspirational for anyone including myself who is yet to put their two wheels on foreign Tarmac. Thanks for sharing.
Si's right mate, been to Switzerland and temperature's were in the low 30's but up in the snow capped mountains it definitely was a lot cooler but you really don't feel it. Probably similar to going skiing, you can sit on a deckchair in the snow and sunbathe with your shirt off!
Yup, when we stopped off at the top, we had to unzip the leathers and wear just t shirts... Strange but true.
Great film - well put together - which software did you use to edit it together ? I tend to have camera fixed and leave some engine noise with the edit and normally find the helmet cams look all over the place but that was good footage. Do you take a laptop and external hard drive to copy the cards over, or just take lots of cards? Lots of passes look familiar - I also sometimes include a google map image to show where in Europe the next bit of footage is filmed at I still have so much video from last year to do something with - was away similar time I think end May / early June last year and have just agreed to a trip end of May. The pressure is on now to produce similar quality post trip video - not it took you about 6 months - not a surprise from somebody who has put them together - last few years I've had 2.5 months to do a triple disk DVD with cover , labels etc. with footage from 3 GoPros filming each day, plus still shots from 8- 10 cameras = nightmare!
I did a big edit of original footage last year for the lads that came with me..This one is an edit of that..lol, not the best quality in comparison to original edit, but not bad, as it had to be compressed twice.j i took 10 32gig cards Al, and have 8 gopro batteries...charged a couple overnight each night, ready for the following day.I think the complete footage was around 300 gig! I use iMovie as its quick to render footage and export, and easy to use. I use the extra battery pack, you can then use 2 batteries at once so with one 32 gig card you can get just over 5 hrs in 720p 60fps ( this keeps the head cam smooth). Might as well just keep the cam rolling as sometimes your busy concentrating while the cam captures things the eye misses. With iMovie, it's easy to add pics and video from other sources, I.e still camera, and is quite seamless to splice in, that footage was a mix of 3 or 4 different sources.
Nerd alert - I film at 720p 30fps as the editing software I use (Sony Vegas renders at that speed - will investigate the 60fps and see if results better - understand why it should be but not sure when it renders if makes a difference.
You tube automatically downscales it to 30 fps anyway, but if you shoot in 60fps, it makes the footage loads smoother Al... Better for slow mo too, that's why the helmet mount footage is smooth, if u shot at 30fps, it's noticeably more jerky, but also 720/60 has a wider field of view, which also goes towards a less shaky result. Only downside to it is it makes the objects seem further away than they really are, but I prefer it as it captures more image.
Hi mate, if you have Fully comp, you may find your insurance covers you for 20 odd days in Europe free. Check with your policy.
You are a top man, Si! Watched this yesterday and really lifted my mood no end. Time for another watch methinks. Thank you!
