Talking to a mate about this. OK about 520 miles there from Bristol. Thinking a week away. on the bikes. some time on track. hotel. explore the local area then home But this is as far as I have got. So what info would I need to find out about before going? Thinking June/July next year. book Chunnel crossing. book hotel as a base. What else do I need to find out before starting to book things up? And what Events do I need to miss that may result in a closed tracks cheers
The trouble with planning that far ahead is that the Touristfahrten dates aren't released until early next year and even then they are subject to change. There's plenty of options accomodation wise so I'd leave it until at least March April time to book. This is this years calendar to give you an idea. The whole of that website is well worth a read, especially the safety section. Mid week evening sessions are a lot quieter so less chance of spillages or closures. I came back last week from Germany and the nurburgring on my bike. We only went to the ring for one day and spent hours waiting for the track to open after accidents, ( they only let bike back on once the cars have soaked all the oil up) the ring is also nothing like a normal track day IMO, and mainly because of the cars and bikes together, The roads around the area are superb, the Mosul valley and along the Rhine.we stayed in a place called Boppard and that was abut 1 hour ride away the scenic route,
Here ya go fella Hotel An Der Nordschleife - Hotel I would highly recommend this place,stayed there a couple of seasons ago.The town is just down the road within walking (or staggering ) distance,good rooms at reasonable prices,speaks good uk lingo,garages to lock the bikes up and very close to the track,the main gates are only less than 10 min ride away to the Ring.Really good roads too.
thanks guys, I really just wanted more info before I look at booking. So if I need to leave it until next year to book that gives me plenty of time to save and find out local places and look at the links posted. work out what would be best for our group
I am at aeaventures near Spa. The owner is a ring instructor and he will take you around the Ring for no extra cost. His place costs 228 Euro for 5 nights b n b n em.
I stayed in a place called Lindner Ferienpark. Worked out less than £40 each for 3 nights. As its a holiday home it was great as you can sit outside with a beer or in the lounge/kitchen. 3 bedrooms could not complain. Only 2 min ride from ring. Tempted to go next year.
Yeah, don't go to the 'Ring with the same mindset as a trackday as they are poles apart. The surface is nowhere near as consistent or grippy as a normal track, and there's painted graffiti all over the shop. Any hint of rain and it's an ice rink (as I know to my cost!). You'll also be concentrating on the road and other vehicles to even think about getting your knee down for a good while. Also off-putting is the number of chavs in their pimped up cars thinking they're Alonso. When I've been on it I've had to stay to the right as the chavmobiles were nose-to-bumper trying to outdo each other. I'm sure they'd come straight from the promenade at Southend! Not as enjoyable as a bikes-only track event, that's for sure. As for accom, we stayed at the Dorint hotel which is pricier than the usual biker B&Bs around there as it's a 4* but it has the advantage of being right on the F1 circuit and the rooms have balconies overlooking the last corner and the start/finish straight and pits. There was a bike race meet on when we stayed so could watch all the different classes race (complete with grid girls and the usual pre-race gubbins!). The TV in the room had a channel showing timings and placings too.
I will be there again in 2013 hoping to complete my 500th lap. Everyone has given you good advice, at the end of the day ride within your own limits, obey the rules and enjoy it.
im doing the same thing in the last week of may. last head count there are 16 bikes 3 cars and a van! it will be my first time to the nurburgring, and i cant wait! i cant remember where were going to stay but its only about 50 euros for 3 nights self catering based on 5 sharing.
Wow, that's sounds like one hell of a trip. Just don't get egged on by others, ride at your own pace and whatever you do keep an eye in your mirror....it might be me
Just a small note to remember when travelling in Germany, you cannot filter a policeman pulled 3 of our group for filtering. The guys said we filter in the UK, he replied YOU ARE NOT IN ENGLAND NOW. I should fine you on the spot but somehow they got away with it! Autobarn riding is awesome you can hammer the bike/car (except in signed restricted areas) the cars go for it so I took that as it was OK for me to do it too. When in the fast lane German drivers/riders keep their indicator on all the time they are in the fast lane. Just a couple of things to remember. The ring, is the ring you have to do it just to count it in your 'bucket list to do' yes the surface is poor in lots of places. I thought there should be bike and cars sessions held seperatly because for first timers it was spooky riding amongst the cars, what you have to remember is the locals use the track regularly so know it like the back of their hand, no amount of 'training/playing the nuremburg game' can make you ready for the real thing. Book the 3 sessions ticket and suss the track on the first run, it can catch you out, one of the guys I was with binned his bike due to over enthusiam - the group I was with did manage to 'patch' the bike up to get him home. The roads and scenery are awesome its well worth the trip.
Hey Remal, hows the planning for the nurburgring trip going? I'm thinking about riding over to Berlin to see my brother. Then if my legs let me I want to do a few laps of the ring. Whats the buget like for a trip into Germany? I might book a couple of weeks off work and go at my own pace. Cant decide what to do.
HI A group of six of us go away each year, stayed at the Blaue Ecke hotel in Adenau twice. Hotel was very good and Adenau is OK for somewhere to eat and drink. There are quite a few places within easy travelling of the Ring. However, the surrounding area is awash with top class roads, Eifel national park, Mosel valley , quick trip into Belgium or Luxembourg. These roads have worse winters than ours but are in excellent condition. Last year we went to Baden Baden, mainly to go on the B500. It was a disappointment after the Eifel region. This year we have booked into a town Bad Neuenahr Ahrweiler which is close enough to the Ring for an evening visit, but the main time is taken up riding the amazing countryside. The Ring is a must do but it is only a small part of the holiday. You will get buzzed by very fast cars being driven well and by others being driven not so well, if you treat it as a fast road ride and being surrounded by knobheads and not as a timed effort, you will enjoy it. Check your insurance, some specifically exclude the Ring either by name or description - Can be expensive if the worst happens This was a site I got a lot of info off before my first visit, changed ownership but may be helpful - Nurburgring Nordschleife website I think a link for the site is already in the topic. We go Hull Rotterdam overnight on the Sunday, 4 nights at the hotel then back home for Saturday lunchtime.
Should be there around the 24th of June, the clock still ticking from last time I went and didn't quite finish my lap !! So 13 years later I'm going back to see the 16 meters of armco that i own and to finish my lap ( all being well ) Doing Spa on the 21st then riding over to have some fun on the road's nearby and a few laps of the Ring, 10 weeks and counting
