Our radiator in our bedroom is stone cold, every other radiator in house is fine, the two pipes connecting the rad are both cold, any ideas? Thermostatic valve at one end, could this be faulty!
Could be, but try bleeding the rad first. Switch heating off first, put a drip tray on the floor and using a rad bleed key, open bleed valve to allow air out and when warm water flows out, shut the valve.
You should be able to unscrew the top of the thermostatic valve anyway. If bleeding doesn't work swap it out for one you know is working. The grubbiness of the thermostat are all in the top half so the watertight bit is all enclosed in what's left on the rad so you don't need to worry about it leaking. But as said, a tiny bit of air in it will hold back the hot water.
There's no actual bleed screw like I thought at the top of the rad, thermo valve one side and another screw in valve the other
Sometimes you need to "balance" the system. This involves closing the valves slightly on the rads that are red hot but not too much so that they go cooler. Usually the rads that are furthest away from the boiler run slightly cooler as they are last to receive the heated water.
I had the very same thing last week. Took the top of the TRV off (big nut just under it that allows you to remove it) and you will see a small pin on the top. This should push up and down when the TRV is adjusted, so get a pair of grips and try to gently move it, side to side first just to get it moving, then up and down. Once it's free, the rad will heat up again. Tiny drop of wd40 on it too. I'll get some pics if it helps?
The pins do go tight (fluff / dust etc) just get something metal (pliers etc) and push the pin down to loosen in, it will only move a few mm so be gentle...once it moves give it a few more press's to make sure its free. then check the pipe to it to see if it gets hot... may be worth checking the lockshield the other end to see if thats been closed? Thats just in case 'someone' has been tampering!
Success!! Took the valve off and have it a press with pliers. Seemed quite free tho, and away the rad went, nice and hot now!! Thanks guys saved me a few quid on a plumber!
I'm in Spalding, I am handy with some stillsons but I have about 27 plumbers and sparkys on call... bugger its been busy since the snow and frost started! We really only do commercial and industrial but a friend in need and all that! A mans house is his castle - a workplace you can leave at home time!
Yeah, but close enough for a blast when the sun is shining! Us Lincs riders should get together...big county and cracking roads
Quite right and totally agree, seems my problem is not solved! Just went to check and its cold again as soon as I took the valve control off it fired up, new thermo valve then I'm thinking? Left it off for now, gather this will be ok?
It will just be open with no thermo on top - I have 2 with no top due to my english springer spaniel pups that ate them..., your room stat will stut the heating off once its to temp, assuming you have one? failing that the timeclock will control the heating.
