They seem very expensive at £208 compared to the 'Drill' versions at £53 Honda CBR1000RR ('12-) - Aero Style Crash Protectors CP0305 Honda CBR1000RR Aero Style Crash Protectors CP0228 Do the 'Non-Drill' offer any protection benefit over the 'Drill' version or are they just aimed at Nancy Boys too scared to get the Holesaw out?
for the difference As carl said, put the hole in. I would not want to pay £150 extra for not putting 2 holes in the fairing
You don't even need to measure on the new bikes you insert a threaded spike into the engine bolt hole and push the faring against it, infact you don't even take the faring off! If you can't fit these the first numpty nomination will indeed be on the board.
Wow that's bloody expensive...! i got the normal bungs for £25 new from ebay lol Fitted the R&G bungs to my RR5 without even taking the panels off..
Fitted the R&G drilled ones, took an hour(ish) each side. As Carl said you get a spike that fits in the mounting hole which creates a dimple in the fairing giving you a centre point to drill. The instructions I had, contained a misprint which confused me at first at choosing which bolt to use on which side (bolts and spacers differ for each side). The only hard bit was stopping the aero bung turning when torquing the bolt up. IMO 'no cut' doesn't provide as much protection, as the bung is offset from the bolt, the fixings are more likely to bend or shear. If they do protect the blade in a spill they will probably be very hard to remove.
Afternoon chaps, Some people steer away from the drill protectors simply because they do not want to drill through their fairings. This is understandable as you are buying the protectors to protect the fairing not potentially damage it more. I would not worry about this at all though as it is an extremely simple job and in my view offers the best protection for your bike. The non-drill uses extra brackets, this can sometimes make them a little weaker and wont offer as much protection because they are offset to the mount potentially making them harder to remove should you have a fall!! Hope this helps
Yeah it took me a while to get up the balls to drill into my fairing and fit my mine, but it was an easy job once I set my mind on it
