And Jamie and Ciaran are both exactly right. You don't buy them with your brain. You buy them with your dick. Despite all their shortcomings and reputations, earned or apocryphal, they are the dirty girl of the bike world. You know it's wrong and you tell your mates you wouldn't, even with theirs, but then they look at you with those sloping, exotic eyes, call to you with that rumbley, gravelly voice then open those cylinders wide apart to 90 degrees and your dick says to your brain, "Don't lock the door tonight I'm going to be home late".

They will spend your money, hang out with the greasy spots in the workshop of the main dealer more than they do with you, and then give them the money you have left. When you're with them, you end up feeling like you've been subjected to the unabridged Kama Sutra and they will sulk and refuse to play when you want to play.

    I'd have another tomorrow...

I heard it first, then watched one come passed L and I just outside Holborn Tube station a few weeks back. L said 'you used to look at me like that, all wide eyed and hopeful' 'yes I know I retorted but that was when I used to get to ride you every weekend' I was still grinning slightly as I limped towards the escalator.

The 100 mile tank range would not put me off, about the same as I usually get on the blade.

I think the thing with twins is you have to really ride them , to put some effort in to ride them fast. It took me a while to learn to love my first twin and I nearly sold it without giving it a proper go. I spoke to a mate about it and he said 'you just haven't learned to ride it'. Although it stuck in my throat when he said it, he was right. I had been trying to ride it like my other bikes. Once I had got used to it I could really make it fly especially around the twisties.

I think it is probably hard on a test ride to give a twin a fair trial if someone has not ridden one before. Ducatis are small, can be uncomfortable and can sound like a tin of nuts and bolts being thrown around at speed.......but riding one fast around the twisties or just standing there looking at it......pretty much priceless IMO.

100miles is a tour IMO, my 848 will do close to 65 if pushed hard before the light comes on, but it's no problem coz you norm want to get off after 30...lol

As said before... Never riden a big twin! Rode the 1050 speed triple and loved the grunt on that so can only imagine what a full fat twin sports bike must be like!!

Can't wait for some test rides now.

was going to say that... most I got was about 75 miles.
but the grin factor, third gear coming out of a corner and the
front wheel shoots skywards, you feel like a moto-gp rider.

    Mmm you goto love em!

As you know the 848 is defo down on power of the bigger bro's but still massive fun on the road, as for the 1098/1198/1199 well! don't think you could ever say it was shy of a wheelie or ten! Last time I was out on a 1198 I spent more time on one wheel that two!... but SMILES all day long! Ahhhh for some sunshine!!!
