Well the time has come. I can avoid it no more. Thanks to Fez's helpful photoshop illustration of what the bike will look like with gold wheels I'm going to go for it. Reckon it'll look sweet on my RR4.......
Sounds like a good plan. Just a quick heads up though, make sure you remove the wheel bearings. A couple of reasons for doing this:1, when the wheels get blasted to remove all the crap, the bearings suffer. 2, the oven does them no good at all. It will ensure that the grease in the bearings themselves melts and disappears. Either remove the old bearings or fit new as soon as the wheels are back with you.
Yeah the guy's told me to remove everything, bearings included. And to wipe a solvent rag around to remove the bearing grease once they're out.
They should sand blast them before they powder them just had mine done, £20 a wheel, need new bearings all round aswell
I presumed they would. After all they're going to have to blast the old paint off but I'll do as he says and clean them up best I can. They're charging £49 / wheel. Are the bearings difficult to remove / fit?
I had my took out at mates shop with the tyres £15 both wheels . bearing are hard if not got rite tool's

Where about in Bootle are they? Is it the one near the Strand? I have been using Chicago Powder Coating Ltd in Manchester, so that would make life simpler....

For anyone in the Midlands Uk, it is worth having a look at Central Wheels Components at Coleshill. I have been using them for many years for tyres and also off road wheel services. They are now offering a powder coating service where they remove and refit the tyres, discs and bearings as part of the job. They quoted me £150 to change my RR5 wheels to white. That's for everything. My local tyre shop charge £20 just to fit and balance a wheel on it's own! I can't comment on the quality of the powder coating as I've not had it done yet, but they are experts with wheels and tyres. Pete
