Hang on a mo ! Since when have you got yourself a job as a Headmaster ?When do you have time to fit in some graft?
I even managed to put my signature as countdown timer too, Please, no technical questions. Like, how did I do it, haven't a clue. 1st time I've managed something without an intake of alcohol
Ok, so I'm sat in work, and Alan's post about the 100 days to this epic has got me thinking about motorcycle related kit etc we are going to need whilst on the road. As always I can never get straight to the point so it might be a waffle? As I see it, there's 20 bikes going that we know of. Rather than everyone carrying loads of the same gear would it be more suitable for us to split the esentials we need between us? For example. We don't need 20 cans of Wurth chain lube, perhaps only one or two of us carry that and we can do the deed on the bikes after the days ride or before we set out? We won't need 20 500ml of engine oil (depends how many RR8's are coming I guess?) but it may be beneficial for a couple to be available? Plus things like Gaffa tape tie wraps etc. After past experiences with one of the group having a flat battery, I'm also considering having a set of jump leads. Nothing heavy, just something up to the job that will take little space in the Kriega but save the AA man paying a visit? Puncture repair kits? Well TBH everyone should have one of them under their seat! I know it needs input and tuning correctly from the seasoned tourers for the exact requirements right but just a thought, I know you could over compensate quite easily if we tried to cover every angle. But if we could consider the essentials? Perhaps Colin would update the first page and where our name is and what we are carrying? Over to you.
But it's not counting down? It does if you follow the link, but not real time as a signature. Premature celebration as usual
My apolagies for anyone who saw this in the satnav thread, but I did say it here first. Seems I've got my dilemma sorted with the luggage situation. I've manage to get my hands on a Kriega US30 drypack for the arse end, and today those nice folk at Blackpool Honda gave me a see how it feels demonstration for a tank bag. No dramas unpacked it stuck it on a 12 plate blade, jump on MrB see how it feels. Yep, I like that. Sold! I was steering away from tank bags, but it's use will out weigh the cosmetic looks, very useful for the DSLR. And as an added bonus there's a built in GPS/iPod/phone pocket built in. So this will be me. Just need a Kriega US 20 for the longer trips, then I'm done. So heres tank bag. A Givi T489 with tomtom fitted. And here it is fitted on the bike. I've moved it as far forwards as possible, and I think we will get on ok? Will use it as a day/camera bag for my little trips, there is a little more movement forwards if I wish to drill some holes? Smashing
It's called the tank lock system Si. Here's a video, it's easier than me trying to explain Givi TankLock System for tank bags - YouTube
Gary, Looks good but suggest you give it a good 'fully loaded' test run before you head away in September as to mee that looks to tall to be comfortable (based on my experience with different sized baglux bags) Its a really good idea to have a 'valuables' bag you take with you when you leave the bike - that's the system / logic I work do with slim baglux with map pocket and space for toll money, camera, wallet, blah blah all the other crap I carry in it (ear plugs, gopro, phone, blackberry, visor cleaner, passport, bike docs, map, etc. - its almost endless lol)
Cheers Al, I'll take that on board mate, I will use it for the Scotland run, plus my little days out. I do seem to me able to get over the tank ok, but a few hours and a few days are poles apart. As I say I can move it further forwards if I so wish, probably another couple of inches. Just thought it would be good, as you say, a take it with you bag with valuables/esentials Also makes the dslr a little easier to get to. To be continued...........
Through trial and error I now always use a Baglux cover and have a few different bags depending on my needs. It also protects your tank and allows you to lean on it for a rest without the fear of scratching. I think you may struggle with it being to tall after a few days in the saddle on your euro hoon.
It's really not that big Giv, unless I go on a mad diet. Dimensions aprox 12" long 8" wide by 7" deep, that's at it's widest/highest parts. But perhaps I could rent it out if we become hard pushed
