Hi all My first post and i Thought id share my woes. Was planning on picking up a 2012 used fireblade in July after I've accumulated 2 years NCD. However, a few insurance quotes have all but ended that dream as I can't get any quotes below £1,000. I've got no points or convictions and I'm 38 years old. Bike would be garaged and have relevant security. I can only assume it's down to having only passed my test 2.5 years ago come July.
Keep shopping around, try bike insurer and Hastings but yes, that'll be about the rate I reckon.... Maybe a couple of hundred lower? Running a newer bike will always add a few quid too. Good luck, and btw they are worth paying the grand for!
I was hoping £6-700 tops! Only issue is I only do a couple of thousand miles a year so makes it an expensive weekend bike!!
Do you live in a big city and what do you do for a living. I changed my occupation from delivery driver to delivery roundsman and that saved me £250. Insurance is stupid and there is always a way around it if you are willing to take the risk of stretching the truth
Hi Stich and welcome to the forum. may I ask WTF you put down as your occupation -are you a stunt man? I passed my test in Oct 2010 and my first Blade rr6 was just under £500 fully comp with MCE.(Clean licence and still is) I was 40 at the time, now 2 years on and 2yrs NCB my 2012 Blade is (just) under £360 fully comp - bargain I think! maybe I live and work in a very very dull safe place????
That is far too much mate, I have six years NBC but other than that its much the same 2012 bike fully comp etc £200 with mce, give them a try
Hi Stitch and welcome to the forum How long have you ridden for mate. That can also be a big factor. Even at £1000 the bike you want is worth it (think of all the other stupid stuff you could easily spend that cash on over the space of a year), and once you have owned it for a year the insurance will go down so long as you don't do anything stupid. Besides you can't put a price on something that can get you away from all the stresses of the day.
Job is just a standard managerial stuff. Only passed my test in May 2011 though will on,y have just over 2 years full licence come July. Will keep looking!
Careful guys my father in law is an owner driver with a well known courier company - his private car insurance was cancelled on renewal as his dopey broker (yep old skool way) didn't fill in his form correclty and when he was honest and rang the company direct to correct another mistake he was told he was un-insurable!! Probably the most expireinced driver I know given his annual millage....
as other's have said thats far too much IMHO over in my neck of the woods we usually pay more than most for insurance.mine costs me £380 a year protected fully comp and im 34. keep shopping about and dont mention power commanders and race pipes
The amount of time you have had a licence for is the key here mate. I'd say you could maybe get another £100-£150 off if your lucky. But once you have owned and ridden a 1000cc sports bike for a year your insurance will come down. It might seem sore just now but it will come down.
Will have only be riding 2yrs 2 months come renewal time so I guess that's the big issue. I've got 17 yrs NCD on the car though!
I share your frustration mate. Only passed my test in October 2011 and after 12 months riding a CBR600F and with 1 years NCB insured my 2010 Blade with Bike Devil for £550. I'm 47 have a similar job to you and live in a low risk, rural village. Most quotes were between £700-£800. Try Bike Devil and good luck. As others have already said whatever you pay its more than worth it.
Some companies will take your car ncb into account Also try tesco compare they sometimes come up with a few good options
1st year on the blade after 1 year on Gixer600 was 1k, 40yrs old (then) been off bikes for 15 years, now £300 you just gotta suck it up for a couple of years.
