Does anyone know of any other docs like the long way round etc. really enjoyed both of them and was wondering if there were others??
I too really enjoyed the series with Charlie and Ewan, although the second episode was to me, a little bit more staged? I would be interested, i have the two program's on my iPad and are frequently used whilst on shift, you see things new every time. I really can't help but think KTM must be kicking themselves when they turned them down because they felt they would fail.
One of the best books by far is a top guy I know called Nathan Millward, the long ride home. got him to send me a copy of his book before Christmas great book http://www.thepostman.org.uk/2012/01/20/2592/ best book I have read for a long time> if you want a copy I'll let him now ;0 Doc's I have enjoyed http://www.amazon.co.uk/Charley-Boo...WLT0/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360782729&sr=8-1 http://www.amazon.co.uk/Extreme-Fro...YE8M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1360782729&sr=8-3 Charley Boorman - From Sydney To Tokyo By Any Means DVD: Amazon.co.uk: Charley Boorman, Samuel Simon, Claudio von Planta, Robin Shek, CategoryArthouse, CategoryCultFilms, CategoryDocumentaries, CategoryMiniSeries, CategoryUK, film movie Documentary D Charley Boorman, Love or hate him. I don't know many people who would not want to do his job and tour around the world and get paid
I suppose you have to consider the series of around the world tours by Nick Saunders not only has he done it loads of times on an R1 he has also done it by push bike .he has his own web site Tyke and also try Duke DVD web site based in the Isle of Man there is also a few very long distance DVDs on there .
Yeah KTM must be eating humble pie now!! Especially when 90% of people who have never even sat on a bike watch charlie & ewan and then same summer go and buy a brand spanker BMW GS and matching touring BMW jumpsuit (wtf.......). I think charlies documentaries are OK but they seem to be more about travel and places, don't get me wrong the places he gets to are beautiful and the culture is interesting but on long way round/down it was more about them fighting the roads/conditions and about the bikes. Charlies new ones just have him doing a wheelie then something about a monument or something.. lol i though long way round was the best seeing them struggle and come together as a team to defeat the obstacles that looked impossible for a motorbike! something I would LOVE to do but at the same time I always think "bastards... if only i had an unlimited budget and full support team..."
I don't think there's any real malice in Charley. I've met him a couple of times and he seems a personable bloke. He's just a spoilt, rich kid who's managed to get way with and by with not much talent. You know, a Pratt. On the other hand, I think Ewan is, just below the surface, unhinged. His riding skills are a bit more likely to make you a statistic than Charley's is too. I'm with Giv'. Nick Saunders gets my vote. We've even got his mini me here with our beloved Jimbo.
Although its a bit low key I quite like the chilled out dude who is on sky travel The greatest motor cycle rides you see a little bit of the world also a close up of some fantastic roads he rides a cool hog type machine but all in all an easy watch programme without much drama.
Yeah, Henry something or another. He's a bit drippy but I agree, he's alright. He did a restoration programme on a 550 like mine and they brought it in at 3.5k, which is encouraging.
Met him a few times also and a top guy. and yes nick Sanders nutter and a top guy. Talked to him at the NEC show
Cant stand that twat Henry Cole. Talk about staged, the problem is there is so little of this type of tv programme that we are prepared to accept crap as being better than nothing...........which I suppose it is
That's the dude its just a laid back easy going programme not sure if he is worthy of being called that though.
Must admit i do like the worlds greatests motorcycle rides but that henry blokes voice does get on my wick after a while
You need to read Mondo Enduro - the group of 4 lads who went round the world pre-internet and open borders on a suzuki trail bikes, really good read. Not sure if they made a film (and think it would have been film as pre digital video I think). There is the adventure film festival if people like these trips and also a lad has just ridden a C90 from Malaysia I think to the UK via Dubai Malaysia to UK on a Honda C90, the movie by Ed March by Ed March — Kickstarter Jimbo's mate Bruce who is coming to Scotland is trying to do a film / DVD I think about his experience trying to go round the world - his short films were good - TeapotOne - 100,000 miles around the world for charity
£12 I think it was, the wife got it for me and got direct from him. I know you may be able to get it a few £££ cheaper else ware but this would be going direct to him, so would rather pay him that say Amazon His FB https://www.facebook.com/nathan.millward.501?fref=ts
