Doing the usual evil bay trawling and came across this along with another 0 miler. Still looks amazing and with all the memoriabilia it would make a great addition on a rich mans collection. Joey Dunlop Special Limited Edition Honda VTR 1000 SP1 + Memorabilia | eBay
There's no way I would have it sat doing nothing either mate. Even if it's only 500 miles a year it would be out there.
I know what you and Andy are saying Col' but after it being pristine all this time, I don't think I could. There's an unregistered SP2 in Bridge Motorcycles windows and I lech over it every time I go there but I'd hate to see that odo click over to 1.
It's got to be seen Ken. Even if only for a couple of rides a year. Just imagine firing it up, throwing a leg over it and heading down your favourite road. It would be worth the endless hours of cleaning afterwards.
I think my OCD/autism/nutjobism would give me a shrinky winky at the thought. Bugger it. I'll have to buy it and borrow yours.
I like it that much Ken I'm thinking of getting my fairings painted to match. Just talking to my mate about it just now
Martin (and I've got to say this quietly so I don't upset Colin), the SP's were uncomfortable, thirsty and lurched like a gagging drunk at much below commuting traffic speed. But they're bloody brilliant. It's like a big cuddly Ducati and who wouldn't want that.
You won't upset me Ken. I know all of these things are true, but I honestly don't care about that, because as soon as you jump on 1 of these things you forget all about it's problems/character and can't get the smile off your face. Cuddly Ducati though I'm not so sure about. It's a bit of an animal. Big, shouty and speaks to the soul.
Oh Ducs are animals alright. Mine would snarl, fart and grumble about the town speed limits and at home in the village in the 20 zone it would scream in one gear and jerk like a puking cat in the next one. It wanted to go around corners faster and lower than I did and it was best happy when I just let go of its lead and let it. Then it would bellow like a bull and go charging off frightening all the other bikes. Sound familiar...?
Sounds about right that Ken. I've had a few ball breakers on the bike already with the low down manners of the bike. That and a narrow tank n slidey seat make a perfect recipe for bruised balls. As you say though get out on the open roads and twisties and it all makes sense. For a bike that is 12 years old and can make you feel like you do when you get off is pretty special. Decision has been made. The bike will be getting a full respray at the end of this season. I've just spoken to my mate and it's all go. The Vimto decals are up for debate though.
