Right then , nearly 3 weeks ago I bought my blade a 2012 hrc After a couple of days of having it home my battery was flat , Tried to charge it but it was a duff , brand new battery put on and all is good , until now ... I bought a optimate like everyone else does just to keep it charged up but there's something not right . I've noticed the battery is not charging properly , when I met the lads Last Sunday there bikes seem to start good mine sounds really lazy has if there's just about enough life in it to start , now after are run I came home washed bike put away , Monday morning I thought right I'll go for a blast battery flat has a pancake , rang my mate lee up ( who's on forum ) turned the key so he could listen to it won't start . Put optimate on for a few hours bike started , left optimate off bike last night and bike started this morning , so we went on the bike today about 35 min ride out had dinner and about hour later bike just about started . So can anyone please tell me what the hell is wrong , I've had good advice off lee but before I ring dealer up and complain , I just want to know what you lot reckon, best way I can describe it is the bike sounds very very lazy when I push the start button, oh all battery connections all in order I've checked and double checked , and the battery voltage readings are , when engine off 12.2 when engine running 12.9 , is this right , wrong ? Thank you Steve.
Nope! Not enough volts in battery. Fully charged should be 13.5 to 13.8 volts. Check voltage at battery terminals with engine running and charging battery. Could be a reg/rec or alternator problem.
That's what i thought mateā¦ Nothing new for a reg or Rect to be dodgy on a new bike, my mates Speed3 did it, so did a new RSV4.
Mine is same bike as yours Barney, it's not on optimate at present but it was until about a week ago. It's always been a lazy starter, but never failed to start. Speaking to mechanics at Bill Smiths, they say Honda,s are lazy starters compared to other makes. My bike shows same readings as yours on optimate, I know what you mean when you press the starter button the engine turns over very slowly and then fires up !
So do I leave optimate on or not ? Or is it back to dealer , nearest o me bill smiths Chester ? or does it have to go back dobles in surry ?
It's a warranty job Barney so any local dealer should be there to help you and claim for expense through Honda .Dont waste any more time and worry over it just get it in.
The Optimate is charging , but when you ride the bike, the battery is not being re-charged!!! Problem with battery, reg/rec, alternator or wiring.
I think you can take it into any Honda dealer after all it will be a warranty job, who ever is nearest, my son is on the service desk at Bill Smiths
It's an easy enough job to disconnect and fit another. "But" I wouldn't be touching it on such a new bike. Get it to the nearest dealers and get them to sort it for you mate. Also call Dobbles and let them know that you are taking it there and why.
Hi mate mines a lazy starter too, it's never let me down but also beeps when the starter button is stabbed. Never heard another one do that before! Get it back to the dealer.
I don't know but I would imagine same day service it's not your problem Barney let others deal with it
Megs is right, it's running just on the charge the charger is giving it between runs. Giv's right too! don't beat yourself up, get it to the dealers.
Charge it overnight, check battery voltage just before you ride it. Ride to stealers and then check voltage again?
Barney let me know if your gonna take bike to bill smiths, I'll let my son know, he's off tomoz and Thursday in Friday, but you can book it in with anyone.
