Added a license plate light to my D.I.Y TailTidy tonight I had an L.E.D laying around from a past project so thought i would see what i could come up with. I had already installed the integrated tail lights , Removed the OEM plate holder and indicators and sealed up the hole left by stencilling the shape and cutting out a peace of thick vinyl to fill the gap, i finished the infill with some carbon look vinyl over the top. I made an L bracket out of ali and bolted through the 2 bottom holes used to bolt on the OEM holder . All i added to night was the L.E.D by popping a hole through the remaing top bolt hole for the OEM plate holder and wired into the tail light . To hold in place and make water tight i filled the bolt hole from behind with instant gasket I think it turned out ok , What do you guys think ?
Sweet..... Now that's the right colour for an LED. That tail light is cherry, man. The way it fills up the whole tail like an afterburner....Spot on. The bit I'm most impressed with though is that you remembered to cover your number plate. LOL. Hey, did you catch the picture of Matt's group's first ride out in 'New Members'. Looking good, dude.
I did mate yes .. Good stuff ha ha...... I took the first photo of the tail with out my plate covered but thought Ken will give me a row for that so covered it up
Well it's not like we all don't know the reg of your bikes off by heart now, mate, but it's the principle of the thing.
I think the LED is white, but the T-shirt covering it is blue? If the LED is blue, it's technically illegal I think.
The LED is blue . I checked with an MOT garage and a license plate light is not needed for an MOT at all on a motorcycle . He passed my 600 with a similar set up but no light for the plate
Ah right . Plausible actually as the MOT tester said there are some funny loop holes in a motorcycle MOT e.g A chain guard .. If you have a chain guard but it is not fitted correctly it is a fail,if you don't have a chain guard at all it is a pass
I think the law is only white or yellow lights at the front and only red (and white for reversing if applicable) at the back. I don't think a number plate would normally even be considered, but you might get an over-enthusiastic copper who notices the blue glow if you're really unlucky.
Yes an noticing the blue glow would lead him to my illegally sized number plate so its coming off . im pretty sure i have a white 1 at home to replace with
Don't take evasive action just cos of what I said though! - chances are no-one will even notice or care that it's blue.
No .. real easy .. Intergrated tail light slots right in, Cut indicator connectors of to wire to so that you don't cut the bikes loom . the hardest part was cutting out the vinyl to fill the hole.. The removable tail tidy is only on 2010 + bikes thou . RR8's are attached to the undertray so different story unfortunatly
