Have Any of you Repsol owners applied venture shield on your bikes, I'm looking for feedback, recommendations and pics if possible. Does the film polish up and look good etc
Carl, got it on my Blade not a Repsol but I would recommend it to everyone. My bike is 5 years old and still looks as good as new. Not so easy to do it yourself but if you take your time you can make a good job of it. You can't polish it as it is plastic but you don't need to, it will clean up with a quick wipe over.
I have it on my retail, not hard to apply if done right. I'm apply decals to the blade now that is harder to apply. Water with washing up liquid. Only a small amount heat gun, apply use heat works a treat and does save your paint
Carl could you let me know how you get on? I want to get some for my nose cone if easy to do yourself
mine has it, these are the closest shots I have, cant actually see it but worth having I think. Cleans real easy..
I throw the polish over my film as I polish the fairings, but like the others say, I don't think you can polish it. Wipes off easily though. It's not a Repsol though if that makes a difference
Carl, I trust you ordered the black tint Venture Shield kit? Not only will you be protecting your R&J but you could cover all that horrible orange and red and have half a chance of going a bit faster.
I have it on the blade, only critism I have of it, is dirt sometimes gets caught at the edge of certain pieces, especially lower front fairing pieces. The dirt seems to get under the edge and stick, so lifting that piece and wiping it is the only way of getting rid of it.
The can is a leo vince GP, £400.. that was last year so they may be cheaper now,, heres a better picture of it
A word of caution to all you guys who think that ventureshield is the b all n end all - I took one bike (non Honda) to get it applied all over so it was not a pre-cut kit type of job and it turned out to be a complete nightmare with parts of the film not sticking correctly, bubbles (that I was assured would disappear after a short while) and worst of all when I took it back to get parts corrected it lifted the clear coat & paint in places. The end result was I asked for it to be completely removed and in doing so other parts of the fairing were wrecked meaning I then needed a complete repaint. To be fair to the installer he was insured so I don't think the cost came out of his pocket but I did end up with the inconvenience of a couple of 600 mile round trips to Altamura which weren't costed for and a good few weeks when I couldn't use my new bike. Anyway, you pay your money & take your chance and I guess I was probably unlucky asking for it to be fitted to a complex fairing & tank shape so I wouldn't be rushing out to have it done again. You must make your own mind up though. I forgot to add that the installer requested that as the bike was new I took it to a local dealer for them to inspect and try to get the whole fairings & tank replaced under warranty as he thought that the clear coat had not been applied correctly and it shouldn't have lifted in as many places. When this didn't pan out as he liked it was then that I went down the whole repaint route.
I did a DIY venture shield job on my RR5 made out of sheets bought on ebay. A couple of strips on the leading edge of the lower fairing have lifted and need replacing, but the only real issue for me was fitting it round awkward curves. I used a hairdryer to warm the film, helping me pull the film round bends. The real problem came when i did the rear seat cowl to stop my bags for the scotland trip scratching it, but when i decided to use my pillion seat instead i removed the film from the seat cowl easily by using the hairdryer again.
Hi Gary when I got mine done i did ask the installer if I ever wanted it off would it come off ok, he said it should do but could also lift the paint!
Now you have all got me concerned, I've just shelled out for a kit and now I'm worried about the paint damage from the film applied to protect it
Carl I wouldn't worry mate, I'm pleased I got it done as the paint on these new bikes (and cars) is shite these days. Once applied it should never need to come off really should it.
