...or does anyone else think that the new 'Blade is really small? Everytime I look at my new beloved I think she has shrunk! I haven't got the tape measure out yet but I'm sure she's only half the size of my old R1. Not complaining about it 'cos she fits me like a glove - or maybe I fit her like a glove! I walked across the petrol station forecourt today and thought someone had swapped my 'Blade for a CBR125. Clocked up a few more clicks today and am now upto just over 200 so am revving upto 8k. I know it's early days, but it seems to have a really linear torque curve. Soooo smooth and 'turbine like'. Apologies if I'm gushing, but this is THE BEST bike I've ever ridden. One word - PERFECT.
8K is a tadge high to be using at only 200 miles. I'm set the led rev limit lights to 6K for the run in period despite the owners hand book not actually stating what they specify for running in at all!
I'd leave the REV lights set at the default 13K. As for 8K being to high, I couldn't disagree more. 6K for the first 100 miles then 7K for the next 100 etc etc. Most important thing though, is that you must work the motor, so not good to just cruise up the M-way at set revs, but keep accelerating then decelerating. Also a good idea to run the brakes in by braking harder and harder as you go - will avoid warping the discs. If you stick to 6K upto 600 miles you'll fcuk your engine for good.
Agree about reasonable loading the motor throughout the Rev range progressively. I'm on 210 miles currently so will be moving higher up the Rev range. Upon re-checking the manual it actually states run in period is 500km which is only 300 miles! Bit too soon for me, think I'll go with 500 miles before max Revs
My only complaints so far are the toss mirrors and I'm finding changing up awkward? I have got size 11 feet in Size 12 Sidi's so maybe that's more the problem, it just seems I have to make a very conscious effort to bend me foot downwards at a considerable angle to get under the gear lever. I might benefit from some rear-sets or adjustment of the standard set up if that's possible?
I agree with that. When i heard my bike was in the showroom , i went to have a look at her and I too thought that my bike was a 125, until i got close up. Its in my garage next to my trusty K2 GSXR1000 and there is a big size difference. Raining and gale force winds here, snow tomorrow, only 20 miles on clock, oh well , radiator guard to fit and quick shifter in the next few days. Have set the shift lights to 6000rpm.Mirrors not brilliant, thought i could adjust the arm at the fairing but seems to be a no!!She feels sooooooo good though.
You can adjust the gear lever quite easily. Disconnect it at the top of the vertical connecting rod then move it one or two splines clockwise to lift the lever. Another thing that you may want to adjust is the clutch lever. Loosen the nut and move the lever down. Hope this helps
Yeah, I thought that about the mirrors, but have got used to them now - you just have to lift your elbow slightly! Our weather's turning to rats now as well but I did manage a few miles today. Did feel a bit pi$$ed off when the overhead signs on the M4 informed me that salt spreading was in progress
It is small. I reckon that's why people don't get out the way for it on the motorway. They think a tiddler like that is topping out at 70. And that one of the headlights is bust. People used to fly out the way of my VTEC. that was much bigger and had some serious headlamps too.
I find they got out of the way fast when I use the 91 vfr 750 My da had. along with the white helmet they must think you are a cop. I find that you are very much perched on top of these new blades. when I first rode it I near had vertigo lol
