So how do you buy that then for £30 when it states £126? (I like the way I'm buying a Vauxhall Astra kit for me Honda Blade!)
Got me thinking this, does any new Bike come with Xenons as standard, and if not, why is this? Every Car we've had since 2007 has had Xenons as standard so why in 2013 do Bikes still come with 'out dated' halogens ?
emailed the seller, so will see what Monday brings. (Not mentioned the price Si paid yet, will see if they try and rob me first!)
Both? I'm all for seeing/being seen but you may get in a bit of trouble running your dipped and main constantly, especially with HIDs.....every poor @?!*er coming the other way will be seeing dots for a week
I did get a reply asking what Car I had despite me stating if was for a Bike! Emailed straight back last monday stating what Bike it was for and have heard nothing since! It seems to be a foreign email addy also, taint looking good though!
Oooooo, so twin dipped? Can you do that on the blades? I wanted to do it on my 600 but was the shape of the reflector rather than angle
I seen a kit somewhere that does a twin dip conversion but kills the main beam Power to about 20%.think it was an American company.
On th last blade forum I was on yrs ago there Was loads of members with it fitted.they said it Was easy fitted and just needed a wire popped Off for mot time.
Well I run HIDs on my BMW R1100s and I would'nt be without 'em. The 'low' beam is an H1, the 'high' is an H7. In practice, the low beam is on all the time and the head supliments it. However there are a couple of issues; both lights are mounted on the same 'frame' and so it's not possible to adjust the height independantly. This means that adjusting the head to illuminate right down the road the dip will, because it seems to be slightly diffused, dazzle on-comeing traffic. It took me quite a lot of time to come to a reasonble compromise. The other problem is that the head beam takes a few seconds to reach it's maximum output. However if it is cycled without having time for the bulb to cool down it provides full brightness immediatly. Unfortunatly, according to 'Wikipedia', cycling an HID bulb without giving the gas inside it time to cool down will result in drastic shortening of bulb life. Now, bearing all that in mind,as far as lights on the 'blade are concerned, it seems to me that there are three options available, 1) Convert the system to the set-up I've got on my 'BM', that is, just swop the OE bulbs for HIDs and have the same cycling problem I've got with that bike. 2) Convert both 'blade lights to hi/lo 'projectors' either by buying one of those (very expensive) conversion kits from the US or, melt the h/light unit apart in an oven and do-it-myself. If I decided to go this route I think I would try and buy a s/hand unit on ebay and experiment on it. That way, if I screw-up there's no harm done. There is, in fact a unit available right now on ebay but at £320.00 sorry, I won't be buying it. 3) Buy this kit XENON HID CONVERSION KIT. 35W 12V AC BALLAST H4-3 Hi/Lo Beam 4300K 6000K 10000K | eBay and adapting it to suit. At just over £30.00 it won't break the bank if it can't be done. The attraction is that these bulbs have an electro-mechanical device that moves the bulb 'element' to re-aline it for dip or head. Since the bulb is always 'on' this eliminates the heating/cooling cycle problem. Trouble is of course, (as the more observant will have spotted) these bulbs are H4 where-as the Honda is fitted with H7s. But I'm wondering; would it be possible to alter the the location ring on an H4 to make it fit an H7 apperture? To find out, it must be easy enough to get hold of an old H7 headlight (anything from a scrap-yard will do) and just start cutting an old H4 bulb to fit. If it works then just perform the same 'op' on the pair of HID bulbs in this kit. The only problem I for-see is getting the focal lenght right, but it may be possible even to adjust this when modifying the bulb. I'm wondering though, since an H4 is an H7, but with another element in there, it may be do-able. I really would like double dips and double heads and wonder why they don't come as standard. Could it be a safety issue? After-all it's possible, I think, that at night, it may be that (for instance) someone waiting to join at a junction could mistake an approaching motorcycle with double head-lights on for a car that is much farther away and pull out, with a predictably sad result. Your thoughts Gentlemen please?
I tried this with halogen lamps before and found that a H4 bulb with the tab cut off will fit in the 04-07 headlight housing as the H7 bulb fits in a spacer the size of a H4 bulb. I also found that the H7 bulb holder was the same as a H4 but with a spade socket missed out as the H7 bulb is 2-pin rather than a 3-pin bulb. In short, a H4 bulb will fit an RR4-RR7, so a H4 HID kit should too.
I too have heard this and then wondered how do all the new cars get away with main and dip hid's? is maybe the new range of bulbs better and not suffer this anymore??
