I think as i heaver that than average i should really get my suspension set up for me . is there any advice on doing it? im over 17 stone, so a fair old fatty for a blade. never done it before is the a idiot prof guide anywhere or is a google wack the best
There's loads on Youtube mate. First set yer sag and then play around with the damping. To be honest , the experts do a great job for not a lot of money?
Kais at Atherton (North west Manchester) but not really local to you, ask Padgetts of Batley who they suggest, or go to a trackday which has a suspension service present and the will do it.
I'm 16st mate and have had my new Blade for 16 days now. A couple of my mates have bought new bikes recently and we are all going to a local suspension specialist to have our bikes set up for us. Costs about £40 each and they've advised to get at least a 1000 miles on the clock before we go so our new shox are 'run in' so to speak. I believe most Jap bikes are set up for an 80kg rider from stock so being as 80kg is 12st 6lb I think my preload will be going in one direction only!
Just noticed Alpha suspension at Leeds??? might be a option Manchester not too big of a deal either only 40 mins away £ 40 would be a steal... i think thats made my mind up why risk making a cock up for the sake of 40 squid i wish i weighed 80kg..... jesus im 112kg i know a ex mechanic of pagets a really good lad but a massive wait for anything doing
It costs between 30 - 40 squid to have it professionally done, well worth the money really. Most of the adjustments are quite straight forward, but at the end of the day you really need the experience to do a good job. Sags are easy to set, its getting the rebound and compression rates right and then having the fronts and rears working together in unison that takes a bit of skill . I've used this resource to set my own suspension but like I said it's best to get a pro or at least someone that knows what they are doing. Motorcycle Suspension Setup. Lots of stuff on youtube too. You will need a mate or two to help too. I DIYed mine and it felt better, then got a pro to set it up during a trackday then it was awesome!. If you still want to DIY just remember to record your original setting so if it feels worst you can revert. Also keep notes so you can record the effect of different setting. Your weight is higher than average, the blade is designed for someone somewhat lighter. You might find to get the best of the Blade you may need suspension rework ie stiffer spring etc, this vid might explain it better Honda CBR1000RR Suspension Evaluation - YouTube hope this helps
Get yourself along to grantham Honda on 20th april as alpha suspension will be there. There should be a few going from here.
Like other have said setup during a trackday is best. You get to warm up the oils first and get to test out the setting during each session. Go back to the pro after the seesion comment on how it felt and he'll make more adjustment. After a few session it's dialled in.
I probably weigh 70kg with all my gear on do you think it would still be worth me going to get suspension set up? I don't know what the original owner weighed so maybe its setup for someone heavier than 80kg? Just dunno where I'd go near York..
just weighed myself with all my gear to see how much it weighed and it adds 12kg (25lbs ) to my weight almost 2 stone that puts my riding weight at 96kg which is why I am getting my suspension setup at Grantham Honda with Alpha on 20th April
I set my sag as usually you dont need to touch the compression and rebound unless the suspension is tired. plenty of online guide's to help you,its really not that hard to set your own suspension.
check out his others about front and rear rebound, he says nearly word for word what I was told when being shown how to set my own suspension.done it on alll my bikes since and each bike has handled spot on for me.have yet to do the blade but thats me being lazy :S
Go and see Gareth at Reactive Suspension. Just north of York between Haxby and Sutton on the Forest. Costs about £45 for a suspension setup and the guy's brilliant at what he does. Totally transformed my bike. I'm back off to see him again in a while for a revalve and changing the springs in my front forks. As I've said before....any mods I do to my bike now will be suspension. The bike's got enough power. Making it handle better made me instantly quicker.
