For the interest of others about to fit a hm shifter on their own , dare I ask what went wrong , or is it something non shifter related and fez got unlucky... :-(
The HM loom is VERY simple, all that the shifter does is cuts power to the coils just like a switch, there are only two wires that run round the loom. The hardest part is stripping the connectors! Faults with the loom are very rare and should be easy to locate! Lots of !!! as IMO it's a simple thing to diagnose....for a technician with a multi meter, buzz meter or even a bulb and batt
Treated the bike to a lithium battery and also a HM quick shifter, thanks for the link Fez!! I'll be in contact with you shortly Arthur, when I know what length shift rod I need . I'd best crack on and get my Sato rear sets fitted to I guess!!
Stripped of some of the stickers that I hadn't lined up the first time and added new ones, plus put her new glasses on (headlight protectors, although don't show up well in the pic).
Fitted my Optimate 4 Dual Programme charger lead today. The aint much room under the seat on an ABS model is there?
Finished stripping and replacing the bolts with stainless jobbies.All greased up with copper grease too. Cleaned it to an inch of it's life. All done because i can't ride it due to the weather being absolutely wank.
Got my R&G tail tidy fitted and all the wires tided up. Now to order a smaller plate Now the pegs are off and with the tidy the back end looks nice and clean. Was quite impressed with the kit you get, but shame the fixing bolts & washers aren't stainless.
Changed the oil and filter on my 2002 gsxr1000 and made sure everything was roadworthy, for an old girl she still goes mental next to the young upstart and is still a good ride....dry forecast tomorrow so hopefully entering the local 1/4 mile sprints on the old girl as newbie only has 220 miles on it.
Got this delivered, Kriega R11, 11 litre botty bag: Enough for my flip flops, puncture kit, camera, waterproofs, wallet 2 t-shirts and a pair of shorts.
Bugger!!! Wet weather n cold has put me off riding for a few more days (hopefully) so I just potted around the workshop,I turned around and glanced at her all shiny just waiting to fire up and to my horror I noticed the once shiny wheels had grown fur!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.Needless to say I've spent most of my day off trying to buff up the wheels but alas theres more than a few pit's in the once shiny surface! Bugger,Bugger Bugger (thats not exactly what I said but you can guess)
It may be cold & wet, but it's during weather like this when you should be doing all those jobs on the bike that you can get the use out of when the weather changes for the better. At least you can do them in the garage though, not like working on the car in the driveway, I still havn't got round to changing the rear pads on my car as it's to cold & windy outside. HID's arrived this morning. I fitted one on the main beam side (right hand side on the image as you look at the front), but will fit the high beam later in the week and run them off the high beam switch so as not to half the life with the main beam going off when starting the bike (obviously I will level the beams after).
Its meant to be 4300k, but now you mention it the pic looks green. Hopefully thats just the camera, i'll check again tomorrow.
