Are R &g crash protector the only way to go safe... i don't really want to cut my fairing but if i have to!!! suggestions welcome
The trouble with the 'No Cut' Crash Bungs is they cost 2-3 times the price of the 'Drilled Fairing' type as they use extension brackets off the engine mounting points which run behind the fairing until they reach 'Fresh Air' then the Bung is bolted on the that. There have been reports that due to the excessive leverage on these brackets in an 'Off' that they can bend and thus cause even more damage. Just drill the faring, after all, whose ever gunna take em off in the future and then say look at those horrible holes!
Gotta agree with that. I've had the drilled sets on my last 3 bikes with no issues when trading/selling them. R&G stuff is top notch as well.
Have a look at these no cut Gilles one's; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HONDA-CBR1000RR-FIREBLADE-ABS-GILLES-IP-CRASH-PADS-PROTECTORS-NO-CUT-DRILLING-/140939872832?_trksid=p5197.m1992&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D14%26meid%3D6466156419971410669%26pid%3D100015%26prg%3D1006%26rk%3D1%26sd%3D140939872832%26
I put R&Gs on and I think they become part of the overall look of the modern bike, and they work when dropped at low speed. I think the question is often asked through fear of cutting the fairing, be assured its very easy to do and difficult to go wrong if you take your time.
Also using a stepped Cone Cutter gives a far better edge to the hole than a hole saw does. https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=S...mc0QX8y4G4BQ&ved=0CAoQ_AUoAQ&biw=1920&bih=944
My R&G's saved my fairings in a 180 degree low side. Bent bolt replaced, good to go!! So yes, they really do work!!
