As title really, my current one is on its last legs but theres so many laptops out there ive no idea what to get.

Looking at spending £400 most, dont really need it to do anything fancy but be a decent quality though.

    Any ideas ????

I have an Apple MacBook Air, which is far too complex for my needs. Much prefer a Sony or something similar.

Jimmy has a point. I've seen Tosh boxes dropped and bounce and shrug it off.

Bought my partner a Lenovo for Christmas, Chinese and fast becoming a top seller. Has more bells and whistles but costs less than Sony, Toshiba etc.

MacBook Pro. 15" retina would be nice...

In case you're wondering why, they're tough. very tough. The body is milled from a solid billet of Aluminium. I have yet to destroy one, while almost every single previous laptop I've had (Thinkpads usually) have delaminated the Gfx chip from the MB as they flex when you pick them up or carry them by the corner of the body.

I bought a Dell intel corei7 from the dell refurbished site for less than £400.
It came with a full warrantee and didn't have a single mark on it!
Best bargain i've ever come across.

Got a new acer a few week's ago from very.
    1Tb memory , 8gb I5 Intel ram and 1gb dedicated graphics memory.
Battery lasts about 2.5hrs so far no matter how many programs you
Have running an stays nice and cool with no fan noise.
Stupidly fast for processing images and video's but its
Downfall is windows 8, has too much of a mac feel to it but a few
Mods later is has my preferred windows vista look about it......
Oh and it was nice and cheap.

I have always had a good run from HPs but I would rate Toshiba as good or better.

I have to say though, windows 8 leaves me cold

Gave up on laptops last year and gone to iPad, does everything I need, 400 quid would get you a 32gb iPad 2 and a decent printer if you need it. Plus it fits in a kriega us10 for working out where the hell I am on the maps.

I would go for Dell if you're on a budget, you can get some good prices if you shop around.

the Lenovo laptop ive just been given from work seems a bit 'less plastic-y' than some others out there, although not sure how much it cost.

Cant really go wrong with a macbook, ive gone through 3 so far and they have all been reliable, only upgraded due to spec etc
