My dear old mum is feeling a bit lonely. She's on her own, and lost her dog due to a long time illness last year ( A Scottish terrier). I want to surprise her with a puppy, but she needs something that doesn't need a 3 mile walk every day, easy to fix ( last 3 dogs she's had have been highly bred, and have suffered from illnesses all the time, which means money) and relatively small, with a proven history of good temperament. NOT a Yorkie! Over to you guys……..
I know you said a dog but how about a cat? They are more independent, don't require walking but will still cuddle up and you can still chat away to them lol. Easier to keep for older people (no idea how old your mum is)
Hi mate. She's got a cat, but they do fek all. They aren't the most loyal of animals, plus with walking it, she can look a tool. The cat she has only cuddles up to the radiator or anything that gives off warmth…..waste of time. Gotta be a dog ( she's 77 by the way) as she really misses her Scottie.
My sister has got a pug crossed with jack russell ( a jug ). Lovely temperament and low maintenance. Adorable little dog. One main feature is some have quite a pronounced over bite on the lower jaw but not all.
English Springer Spaniel, can't recommend them highly enough. I've had Springers since I was 2 years old...yes they love exercise but they get used to what you give them,throw a ball down the garden a few times a day and they will be the most happy,loyal, trustworthy,caring and faithful dogs you have ever had. Springers are lovely but very lively may be a bit much for a 77 year old. Beagle? No idea if hi or low maintenance but a good size and pretty cute

Got to be a Yorkie Si, more than happy sat on your lap, I have 2 and we wished we had got one for the mum in law now instead of a Westie. There're not all yappy snappy dogs, quite intelligent.
I just put a google search for best small dogs for old people lol, it came up with top 10 small dogs and that was first on list and says they like to be round people, get on with cats, easy to look after, good with kits, don't malt too much etc..... Want a link to the search mate?
Jack Russell great character,wont need much walking,loyal and good little guard dog they never switch off!
Recommend you a Dog eh? This one looks right up my street! (Not sure me Mother would approve though!)
