I have recently been speaking to a chap that tells me to replace the tyres on my new blade because though they appear to be a quality Bridgestone, Honda buy in bulk and apply so much pressure to get the price down the tyres supplied are not top quality? Now I can't believe Bridgestone would supply a lesser quality of a particular type risking their overall reparation, has any of you guys hear anything or had experience to this regard?
Yes, this is a well known phenemenon. Nothing to do with Honda or Bridgestone in particular, applies to all manufacturers.
The usual stock Tyre is Dunlop Qualifier 2's which although get slated on here as being shyte and only lasting 800 miles or so have't 'seemed' too bad to me so far. Then again I aint had chance to heave her over too far yet so I'll reserve judgement. I'll probably be getting Metzeler Sportec M5 I think? Tyres for your motorcycle Metzeler - sport track, supersport, touring, custom, enduro, offroad, scooter - Sportec M5 Interact I think Si likes these also?
Im currently giving the ol BT023s a spanking, they seem really good in this shitty weather. warm up quick and seem to be wearing well. I hated the Qualifier 2s they are great at the start in the warm but poo cak in the wet and when worn.
Hi Carl, how’s the lobster red peeling skin and sexed out body? I was only pondering about this the other day, I still have the OE tyres on mine and was thinking, if I am keeping it I will need to change the tyres this year and what will I change them for, the OE's are not brilliant and have given me a few moments when a more sticky tyre might be more arse relaxing. So I am also interested to see what is recommended. You like me, don’t ride like a lunatic but like to get a shift on, so something that warms up quickly and gives confidence is much more important than how many miles you can get out of the tyres. I wouldn’t mind if I had to change them every spring if they give me what I want. I do no more than a 1000 miles a year and not that worried about riding in the rain unless Carl invites me and tells me’ it won’t rain, honest’ in which case I need a rain tyre.
Had about 800 miles out of the qualifier 2 that was fitted to our demo bike. The S20 (G) I have last around 3.5K on the rear. Price and availability seem to be the difference as far as I can tell.
lets just say im a naughty boy and a poor one too....and My dealer refused to sort my ABS util I replaced the rubber! think it was about 4000 miles but they were well gone tbh, but xmas was here and the money wasn't! tbh, i reckon they were done their best about 2.5k IMO
My 09 had Dunflop Qualifiers (not the 2's) fitted as standard. I had these Teflons on for 3k miles before changing and they weren't the best tyre but I persevered and decided enough was enough when I lost the front and it caused me to run out in a corner. Now running Sportsmarts as recomended by the crew on here and not had chance to even run these in because of the shite weather.
Can't comment on how long the originals last for me yet... 430 miles in so far and they seem pretty good... As far as grip goes anyway. Better than the ones (originals) I had on my old bike. I'm expecting to get around 4000, but reckon they'll be a bit square by then (All my riding is commuting and there's not much opportunity to lean a lot when filtering on the M4). Motoden usually offer me a choice of same as original, or a slightly harder multi-compound that usually gets double what the originals get. My other mechanic (SBK City - Ralf LoTurco) likes metzlers. Although it's been a while and that was on a 600F... H
I use these on mine Fez and I had no issues yesterday in Wales. They will come in to their own though when the weather warms up.
Fez my dear boy, when it comes to tyres it doesn't concern me how many miles I get, but how safe and planted they feel! You spend hundreds on your bike making it look good, another set of tyres in a season shouldn't bother your purse too much. No good owning a bike that looks a million dollars but doesn't feel right. When you're cranked over at 85mph it feels good to know you've invested your money wisely in a sticky set of tyres! BTW I probably get about 2500 miles from the rear
Thats the same millage i will get out of my drc then. Im undecided between the dunlop sportsmart and the k3's, you dont hear people complaining about either. i might just toss a coin
