Plus a very magnanimous piece of product placement for someone else's salon. That's very big of you mate...
This is our Land Rover now sold and Ive been nattering the O/H to let me have it to put on my bike.... Because I'm dynamite..... He will give eventually
Just noticed that picture is of Hoylake! Did 4 years apprenticeship there many years ago at the Manweb/Scottish Power training centre! The good ole day's and the game local chicks!
Because 'The DVLA Man' says, and that's that! (Oh, and you never actually bought it, you just didn't read the small print!)
Sorry, who are you? I do remember a dude that had your forum name but remember him losing Interest one day and hanging up his boots?
I think I can live with having the plate, especially as its my name and I can transfer it to any vehicle (bike) I get in the future, as opposed to it being vehicle specific. It's whether I can justify to myself spending 850 on a plate when I could get a couple of pairs of tyres, a tailtidy and a trackday for the same price. Decisions decisions!! Good range of views so far though... looks like the majority who have commented so far are in favour. On the plus side for me, my other half is urging me to go for it!!
Yup, you don't own it, you own the right to display it after the fees paid ( retention, transfer etc) .. Weird but true. When you come to sell, you are only selling the right to display for someone else to have that right...the dvla will always own it. so, if you have A1 or even 1, it'll cost you £100,000+ just to display it! A win win situation on behalf of the dvla.crafty beggars.
Also if you get into too much trouble with your plate apparently they have the right to remove it and sell it on without giving you a penny
Yes way! Hahaha. And if you don't display it on the vehicle, the dvla will charge you a retention fee to keep the paperwork saying that you may use it. And if you do use it, you pay a transfer fee to them also, to have the details updated on their database so you can display it on your vehicle. the dvla are basically borrowing you the plate, you just pay them 100's or 100's of thousands of pounds to basically borrow it. Mad isn't it?!
Started mine Barney in 87 I think. Used to be a 33kV Cable Jointer (hence my username) but got fecked off bending over wet holes (No Si, not those sort! ) so transfered to CT Metering installations. Went back to college and did my HNC in Electrical Engineering so I could be a Network Engineer but got disillusioned with the whole privatisation milarkee so took redundancy and started my own company up. I do miss the lads etc and the fecks ups by newbie Engineers, it all passed the time. Watched a young Engineer from Liverpool Spike a live 11kV cable once outside a shop! Made us all shat ourselves and didn't leave much left of the shop front un-scorched!....................................How we laughed, never did see him again!
I found when searching mine that it was available on every site including the DVLA site, DVLA was always cheaper as these other companies basically pay DVLA then charge you at least 100 on top! Basically if its not on DVLA site it's not available as they own them
No way Si, honestly get fees, like anything theres a cost to something- lol, learnt that from being married, but thats another story! Just can't get my head around it. Send me a link explaining the legalities if you have one. Cheers
That's not true either Martin. Some sites 'buy' the plates and put on retention for resale and/or have for sale plates 'owned' by private third party individuales that are using that particular site as a Sales Agent. The DVLA only list plates that have not been 'sold' yet and if they appear on third party sites it's only because the third party site is chancing it's arm that a Punter has not looked on the DVLA site for that plate and if they get a sale they just snap it up quick and sell it on with a Oner or so on top!
Always go direct mate, no hidden costs, all fees inc in price 799 here It's not possible for another company to beat the price as this is DVLA themselves DVLA Personalised Registrations - Buy private number plates direct from the DVLA. From £250 fully inclusive
Does the vehicle not retain its initial registration number?? What happens when you sell the vehicle on and transfer the private plate to your new vehicle??
