I have had a look through the how to guides on here and don't see one for the tail tidy fitting. I am looking at getting either the R & G tail tidy or the Evo tech one as the standard one is just tooooooo much!! I appreciate that the new one will most likely come with fitting instructions but I don't see why Honda have made it such a big deal to have to remove the under tray just to change the damn bracket over. What is involved? Do I have to remove the rear seat cowl/fairing totally or is is just a case of taking the seats off and undoing a few screws? Any info and advice appreciated.
If 08+ then I'm afraid you do have to dismantle the rear end of the bike to the point of exposing the rear subframe. That's for the RnG anyway. The hardest part is actually locating/disconnecting the rear light loom connectors which on mine were tucked right under the fuse box under the seat. Tip: if you plan to remove rear foot pegs it's a good idea to do it at same time as the tail tidy as it involves splitting sub frame.
Just done mine(amongst other things) on a 13 plate, if the tail is the same as mine you dont need to strip the whole back end down, soz but I don't know about earlier ones Unplug the 4 pin electrical connection to the indicators & number plate light (remove front seat and its just to the rear of the fusebox) Undoo the 3 bolts (take the pillion seat of and they should be staring back a you) that hold the carrier in place and it'll just come away easily If you're planning on using indicators and the number plate light you'll have to strip the hanger to remove the 2' ish section of harness The R&G Tail tidy comes with all the necessary connections and bolts (I've just bought one) I'd post a few piccies but I don't know how too .... I'm way better with bolts than buttons !! Hope this helps
Here's a link from R&G page http://www.rg-racing.com/Images/Products/ProductFields/pdf672_83.pdf they are awesome guys and really helpful, cool they have instructions on website too if you loose yours or by secondhand. Ps I've presumed you have an 08 onwards. Cheers
As promised from my newbie post, a couple of pictures. See told you I'd get some on here once I got a dry day to play out. Just to clarify the bike is an 09 model..... looks like I'll be taking the rear end apart then!! I plan on keeping the pillion pegs on for the time being as I do occasionally (albeit rarely) carry a pillion. I will check out the links that have been posted.
Depends on the tail tidy mate, some you don't have to dismantle the tail. There's also two R&G versions, I originally had the one you don't have to dismantle the tail, but if I'm honest I honk te other versions much nicer.
Nice one Martin!! I actually enjoy taking my other half out and she enjoys the odd bimble out too. I sold my ZZR1400 to get the blade which was a bit of a difficult decision but at the end of the day I enjoy my sports bikes too much but still like to take the Mrs out occasionally. I think I will bite the bullet and get the Evotech tail and enjoy the experience of learning how to dismantle the rear end!!
