Hi people, I'm ordering tsubaki sigma x ring gold chain and renthal sprockets -1 front, +1 rear. I've been looking through the forums and watching youtube vids, but I want to know all the tools/kit I'll need. Any info will be much appreciated. Drew
Just done this myself, before you buy all the tools consider your local dealer will fit for £60. See my thread for the essential tools. http://1000rr.co.uk/mods-upgrades-accessories-products/9995.htm Having just done this, and if you still want to DIY, do yourself a favour and get a DID chain instead, Tsubakis come with a solid rivet link which to be riveted properly needs a pricey tool. DID chains are hollow rivets that can be done with a cheapish (30 quid tool).
Yeah, it'd be easier to just get it done professionally, but I've got a bit of time on my hands and I'm enjoying doing bits and pieces myself at the moment. Hmmm, I'll look at did chains, I know many on here recommend them
for a tsubaki you need some heavy duty tools B&C Express | Chain Breaker-Riveter for did this is more than adequate DID Style Motorcycle Heavy Duty Chain Riveter Breaker Splitter Riveting Tool | eBay
Well I'm going to buy 1 if that's anything to go by mate. I understand your doubts as it says for Regina chains only and not for DID. Reason for not for DID is that they use soft links, reason for Regina only is for sales reasons
Nahh forget all that Get a cutting wheel on an angle grinder to cut the chain off and then grind the head of a G-clamp into a pin shape to open out the rivets on the new link. Worked on my ZX6R :-D
I used the cheapo DID type tool to remove the old chain and press the plates on the new one. As I did not have a proper tool to rivet the Tsubaki just used a Sledge hammer as a back stop behind the chain and a small club hammer to peen the rivets. Just take your time and aim well!
I also use digi verniers on the link, so you match the factory link width. All too easy to press the plate on too far & crush the o rings.
